10 Most Shocking Royal Rumble Eliminations Of All Time

7. Batista and John Cena eliminate each other – 2005

The conclusion to the 2005 Royal Rumble is one of the most bizarre moments in wrestling history.

After a competitive back-and-forth between the final two competitors, Batista lifted John Cena up for a Batista Bomb. To counter, Cena threw himself over the top rope, still attached to his rival.

In an unbelievable moment, both competitors’ feet hit the floor at the exact same time.

As the ringside referees argued over who won the match, an irate Mr McMahon stormed towards the ring. Just as McMahon entered the squared circle, he tore both quadriceps, leaving him unable to stand.

Mr McMahon remained seated in the ring as he listened to Cena and Batista argue their cases. The Chairman called for the match to be restarted and was carried away as Cena was being eliminated for the second time.

Although the following events were even more odd, John Cena and Batista hitting the floor at the exact same time was nothing short of incredible.

6. Shawn Michaels eliminates Triple H – 2010

Only one person can win the Royal Rumble.

After losing to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25, Shawn Michaels became obsessed with getting a rematch. Winning the 2010 Royal Rumble would’ve meant he could’ve challenge the ‘Deadman’ for his World Heavyweight Championship at the ‘Show of Shows’.

‘The Game’ was on top form during the 2010 Royal Rumble, and HBK wasn’t taking any chances. After Triple H saved Michaels from John Cena’s Attitude Adjustment, Shawn superkicked his D-Generation X partner, eliminating his friend.

It was clear that HBK didn’t want to attack Triple H, but he felt like he had to. Although he didn’t win the match, Michaels’ 2010 Royal Rumble performance was mesmerising.

 5. André The Giant eliminates himself – 1989

The winner of the 20-man over the top rope contest at WrestleMania II, André the Giant was notorious for his Battle Royal victories.

During the 1989 Royal Rumble, something insane happened. Not only was the 7ft athlete thrown over the top rope… the elimination was voluntary!

Almost 15 minutes into André’s dominant showing, Jake “The Snake” Roberts decided to live up to his nickname. Returning to the ring after previously being eliminated by André, Jake threw Damien, his Burmese python, into the ring.

Roberts used Damien to scare the remaining competitors, including André the Giant, who was so terrified, he jumped over the top rope.

Some days, you have to face your fears, but André had decided that January 15, 1989 was not the day.
