Drew McIntyre became the first ever British WWE Champion by defeating Brock Lesnar in the main event of night two of WrestleMania 36.
However, there’s no time to look in the rear view mirror because with being WWE Champion comes the threat of challengers trying to take that very prize away.
We’re gonna take a look at 10 potential challengers for Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship.
There were two men that WWE considered as possible challengers for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. One was obviously Drew McIntyre, and the other, was Aleister Black.
Instead, Black ended up in a pointless but inoffensive match against Bobby Lashley, from which he emerged victorious, but then went over half an hour with Apollo Crews the following night on Raw.
While doing such a thing doesn’t sound like WWE Championship challenger material, you have to wonder how long WWE can hold Black back for.
It seems like he’s been nearly unbeatable for absolutely ages now, yet has never even sniffed a chance at a singles title.
This one’s a pretty obvious shout so we’ll get it out the way early.
Despite losing to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania, Rollins is still firmly the top heel on Raw at the minute, so a match against McIntyre is inevitable at some point.
It’s been rumoured that WWE may be holding off on it for now though with a view to it being the big title match at SummerSlam.
Whether it be a prizefighter or a family man, Kevin Owens has to be eyeing up a potential WWE Championship match with McIntyre.
With the momentum of a win over Rollins at WrestleMania, Owens nowadays is all about providing for his family, and what better way to do that than with a champion’s paycheck.
We saw it when he replaced Kofi Kingston in a title match last year, KO will do what’s best for himself and his family even if it means making a few people upset.
McIntyre vs. Owens sounds like a heavyweight battle that would also mix in unparalleled technique and a whole lotta pace to boot.
