It was recently reported that John Cena is expected to have a match at WrestleMania 37.
It is currently unknown who the 16-time World Champion will face, but it will be interesting to see who the returning star chooses to wrestle at The Show of Shows.
Here are 10 (well, technically 11) potential stars who could face John Cena at WrestleMania 37.
10. AJ Styles
John Cena vs AJ Styles was one of the greatest WWE rivalries of the modern era. Every time they stepped into the ring together, there was a big fight feel.
In their 2016 and 2017 series of matches, Styles voiced his grievances with The Champ, not believing Cena to be worthy of his status when he didn’t appear on Smackdown weekly.
This argument has only become more relevant, with John Cena rumoured to compete on the biggest WWE show of the year after 12 months away from the ring.
It would make sense for both competitors to pursue this potential contest. Styles has pinned Cena numerous times, most notably at SummerSlam 2016 and No Mercy 2016.
In their most recent singles match however, Cena defeated Styles at Royal Rumble 2017 to become a 16-time World Champion. One last singles match would provide an epic conclusion to one of the greatest rivalries of John Cena’s career.
9. Daniel Bryan
In 2013, John Cena selected Daniel Bryan to become his SummerSlam challenger. Against all odds, the underdog pinned Cena in the centre of the ring to win his first WWE Championship.
This was the last time that Cena and Bryan have stood across the ring from one another in singles competition. At the 2013 Championship Ascension ceremony, The Champ singled out The Leader of the Yes Movement, promising fans a rematch.
Sadly, this rematch never came to fruition. Other than their 2013 encounter, Bryan and Cena have had one other singles match, with Cena picking up the victory in 2012. With one win apiece, a third contest would decide the superior athlete.
With both men in the twilight of their WWE careers, this is one match we need to see before both competitors hang their boots up for good.
8. Goldberg
It has been reported that WrestleMania 37 is expected to be a “parade of former stars“. If this year’s event will showcase competitors of the past, this dream match could top the card.
One of the most dominant wrestlers of all time, Goldberg was practically unstoppable. With a 173-match winning streak, the Georgian powerhouse became a mainstay of WCW.
After his 2002 debut, John Cena quickly rose to the top of WWE, staying there for over a decade. Winning his first World Championship in 2005 and his latest in 2017, The Champ certainly earned his golden nickname.
Two icons of their respective eras, Cena and Goldberg have never faced off in one-on-one competition. With both men only competing on a part time basis, this special attraction match-up has “WrestleMania” written all over it.
