10 Reasons To Look Forward To WWE King Of The Ring

Even though there was speculation that WWE was planning another tournamentthe announcement of King Of The Ring returning next week on RAW came as a surprise for many.

Eight wrestlers from RAW, eight wrestlers from Smackdown Live – this tournament is going to provide an exciting set of matches and hopefully will make stars in the process.

The last time we saw a King of the Ring was in 2015, when Bad News Barrett wore the prestigious crown. For certain, it has been missed and this article will tackle ‘Ten Reasons To Look Forward To WWE King Of The Ring’:

1. An Incredible Field Of Competitors

The sixteen competitors announced via vignettes last night on RAW proves to be a stacked amount of talent in one tournament.

If this tournament gets the right amount of attention that it deserves, this may go down in history as one of the best tournaments in WWE.

As long as Baron Corbin doesn’t win or Shane McMahon takes the position of an injured Miz in the final at Clash of Champions on September 15th – this tournament will definitely be worth watching!

2. It Will Deliver Thrilling Matches

Due to the previous reason, the set of matches delivered through this tournament could be spectacular.

The brackets haven’t been revealed yet, but that just leaves it to the imagination as of now; Buddy Murphy vs Ricochet?! Ali vs Cesaro?! Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn… again?!

At this momenet, this is looking like an inspiring tournament.

3. Tournaments Are Entertaining

One of the main reasons why this tournament will most likely be excellent is the booking of previous tournaments in WWE.

Just look back at the United Kingdom tournaments, the Cruiserweight Classic, the Mae Young Classic or all of the NXT ones. Even the previous King of The Ring tournaments have been sports entertainment mixed with pro-wrestling at its best.

With Paul Heyman’s influence, tournaments may be on the rise even more for the main roster. A Queen of the Ring tournament is a must!

4. Drew McIntyre Could Become King Of The Ring

Stars will be made during this King of the Ring tournament, but one in particular needs this win to reach the next level in his career and that man is Drew McIntyre.

The ‘Scottish Psychopath’ has been doing nothing special as of late due to being Shane McMahon’s lackey and being fueled by anger due to Roman Reigns and Cedric Alexander.

This tournament may be the best opportunity to push Drew McIntyre as the biggest heel in the company. What better way to do this than making him become King of the Ring.

Commentary could also compare him to the greats such as Robert the Bruce which proves why he is an epic pick for winning this tournament.

5. Andrade Could Become King Of The Ring

Andrade hasn’t done much since debuting on the Smackdown roster after WrestleMania last year. Each match he puts on is main event level, but unfortunately, he hasn’t been placed in that picture.

That could all change after a victory in the King of the Ring tournament. Last night on RAW, Andrade beat Rey Mysterio decisively by a clean sweep in their two out of three falls match.

This very well could be a passing of the torch moment and Andrade may not only be the King of Latinos but could become the King of the Ring.

6. King Of The Ring Heightens Careers

Just look at some of the Kings of the past:

  1. 3:16 started at King of the Ring 1996 when Stone Cold Steve Austin won the memorable tournament.
  2. The late Harley Race won the 2nd King of the Ring tournament in 1986.
  3. Booker T is notorious for his run as King Booker which started by winning the tournament in 2006.
  4. Sheamus is a more recent example becoming King of the Ring in 2010

It is no surprise that the King of the Ring tournament creates legends and provides exciting television!

7. Cesaro Could Become King Of The Ring

Can the King of Swing become the King of the Ring?

Cesaro winning the tournament would be exceptional! Seeing as the guy should have entered the main event scene years ago and has never been utilized to his full potential, this would be a feel-good moment for the Swiss Section.

Honestly, I can’t actually see it happening, but it would be brilliant if it did.

8. Samoa Joe’s New Persona Could Thrive

After showing sympathy for Roman Reigns last week on RAW after the vicious car crash, people have been wondering if Samoa Joe would turn face.

It was reported that he was still going to be a heel and it was just to divide Bryan from the rest of the roster. This was backed up by Joe telling us on RAW last night that he forgives Roman but not the fans.

This is still a new persona for Samoa Joe. He does have a heart. Even though this isn’t shown when he gets competitive, this should be used in the King of the Ring tournament.

The fans will be behind him each round, and he could be the most interesting competitor in this field. It is time for the Samoa Joe push!

9. Kevin Owens Could Become King of the Ring

Out of the four wrestlers I have mentioned in this article, this looks like the most likely option.

Kevin Owens winning the King of the Ring tournament would be the wisest decision following his magnificent victory against Shane McMahon at WWE SummerSlam. With the OmniShane hopefully over, it is time for Kevin Owens – one of the biggest babyfaces in the company – to move on.

With Shane McMahon being the ‘Best in the World’ after shockingly winning the World Cup, it seems like nice storytelling to have Owens win a tournament of his own.

Stone Cold also won this honorable tournament, which is a character that KO lives up too.

Kevin Owens could be an early favorite to become King of the Ring.

10. New Storylines Will Begin

This is the biggest reason why this tournament is going to be a bunch of fun!

Not only will a King be crowned at Clash of Champions, with the competitors getting TV time and trying to battle for survival, new feuds and fresh rivalries are certainly going to be created.

All it takes is for someone to cost another the chance of gaining entry into the next round, and we have a new storyline in our hands.

Progression from other storylines could also occur. Will Shelton Benjamin’s awkward interview thing pay off? Will Chad Gable fight Elias during one of the rounds? Does Ali remain a Prince or become a King?

Fingers crossed the winner gets a title opportunity down the line.

These are the many reasons to stay tuned to this King of the Ring tournament starting next week on RAW. The winner will be named at Clash of Champions on September 15.
