If you are one of the many fans who watch the WWE product, but spend time complaining about how all the characters sound the same, Impact Wrestling may be a place for you. Don Callis stated on the Killing the Town Podcast Impact Wrestling won’t be doing scripted promos.
“I can do a Don Callis promo better than anyone in the business, but if I start telling Eddie Edwards how to do a promo, he might start sounding a lot like Don Callis. That’s not what we want.”
In WWE, a lot of the matches and promos don’t sound like grown men who want to fight each other. Whether it’s somebody saying something as bad as “Sufferin’ Succotash” or calling people short, we tend to get a lot of copy/paste in WWE. In Impact Wrestling, characters are encouraged to be themselves and speak for themselves.
“The promo thing is about getting people comfortable with themselves and we’re in a business where a lot of people come into this business not comfortable in their own skin.”
The last few months in Impact Wrestling has seen a fair share of unscripted promos, but still focusing on wrestling action. Sami Callihan, Austin Aries, Eddie Kingston, Konnan and Eli Drake are currently doing a lot of the talking in Impact. Don Callis is leading the way with his interesting and high-quality commentary during the show. Each of these guys have such a unique character no writer would be able to do them justice.
