10 Ways This Year’s WrestleMania Can Still Be ‘The Show Of Shows’

2020 has had a rough few months outside our wrestling bubble. However, our bubble has been popped and the global pandemic of the COVID-19 virus has meant WrestleMania 36 has needed a lot of changes.

It won’t have a crowd to prevent the spread of the virus. Therefore, WWE had to make sudden changes. Now the show is being held in the Performance Centre, in front of zero fans and over two nights.

It is quite intriguing how this show will work. This hasn’t happened in the history of WrestleMania, which means WrestleMania 36 will be quite different from the shows than we’re used too. Here are ten ways this year’s WrestleMania can still be the ‘Show Of Shows’.

10. Embrace The Empty Arena

WWE recently has been doing their empty arena Raws and SmackDowns weirdly. They are pretending like the show is still in front of a crowd. However, they nailed the empty arena show with a recent edition of SmackDown.

They just need to embrace the empty arena. Give us a show that makes us pop from our own self-isolation spot. Don’t give us the same show they were wanting but with no crowd, change it up. A TV drama doesn’t need an audience to be spoken about, so neither should WrestleMania.

If WrestleMania can acknowledge the fans are there, just not in person, then this show should be off to a good start.

9. Put On Great Matches

As Daniel Bryan & Drew Gulak vs Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro proved on the recent SmackDown: if the matches are fun, enthusiastic and filled with big spots, people won’t complain.

Good matches look good on TV as well as live, so if the matches can keep us engaged then WrestleMania should still be one of WWE’s most excellent events.

8. Hide Spoilers

WWE has to try their hardest to hide spoilers from the show.

There isn’t anything worse than watching a match that you already know the outcome. Especially, if it is supposed to be the biggest event in professional wrestling.

It really takes away the kayfabe feeling of the show. Therefore, WWE has to be incredibly secretive when it comes to pre-recording the Show of Shows.

7. Space Out The Matches On Both Nights

WrestleMania is slated to be ‘Too Big For Two Nights’ which means they need to keep the fans engaged for both nights.

If night one goes horribly will fans still watch night two?

The matches have to be spaced out evenly on both shows. Furthermore, night one has to build anticipation for night two. They could even include a spot on night one which follows through onto night two.

Overall, both nights have to be as awesome as each other, to show that this two-nighter edition could perhaps work even without a crowd. Seeing as previous WrestleManias have proven that 8 hours is too long to watch a show of any form.

6. Pirate-Themed Performance Centre

WWE has brought back pyro and set designs, which are a major component in increasing the energy and atmosphere for the show.

That dastardly virus may have stopped our chances of seeing what the real set design for WrestleMania 36 would’ve been. There definitely would’ve been a pirate ship. There could have been a “Walk the Plank” spot or even parrots instead of jets during the American National Anthem. We won’t know now…

However, there still has to be a difference between the shows of Raw and SmackDown in the PC than ‘Mania in the PC.

If they can’t fit a miniature pirate-ship in the building at least make it look like the inside of a ship. Have cannons surrounding the arena, have bunk-beds and buckets of fish. Just try to make the set unique and get this year’s pirate theme completed effectively.

5. Otis Wins Over Mandy Rose

The Otis-Mandy-Ziggler love triangle story has been one of WWE’s best in recent memory.

The crowd reaction Otis is receiving is positive and we sympathize with Otis like no other character on the current product.

Without the crowd there it looked impossible for this rivalry to be significant. However, when Otis got himself DQ’d on SmackDown and was flooded with emotion we all felt that at home. Otis is a loveable character and letting him win over Mandy Rose at WrestleMania 36 will be a success – crowd or not.

4. Give The Fans What They Want

Nobody would complain if the fan-favourite wrestlers won their feuds.

If Drew McIntyre conquered the Beast, a tear may creep out from our eyes because Drew’s journey to the top has been treacherous and time-consuming.

If Rhea Ripley retains her NXT Championship, the fans will cheer because Charlotte lost for once and it solidifies NXT to be on the level of the main roster once again.

Finally, if The Fiend can let John Cena in, this will effectively show that our trust in Bray Wyatt being a mega-star is proven and he deserves the top-level status as much as anyone.

As Batista would say “Give Me What I Want!” If WWE does that, the fans will leave ‘Mania weekend as pleased embracers in the product again.

3. Huge Swerves

Nothing gets the fans talking more than a huge swerve they didn’t expect.

Whether that be a heel/babyface turn, a win or lose they didn’t bet for a million years would take place or a return which makes you jump out of your seat – a huge swerve keeps fans engaged and wondering what can happen next.

If there are plenty of shockers and effective decisions then fans may forget about the poor parts of the show as they will focus their attention on talking about these ‘Mania Moments.

2. Goldberg Match Is Fast-Paced

One of the most underwhelming storylines for WrestleMania 36 is Goldberg as Universal Champion. Goldberg got a huge amount of heat when he ran circles around the Fiend at Super ShowDown last month.

Roman Reigns will be unable to participate at WrestleMania as a result of the coronavirus and it had left this match in a state of flux.

While the rumour is Goldberg will be defending the title against Braun Strowman, this match should maintain a quick pace. A slow lumbering match between the two powerhouses wouldn’t do anyone any favours.

If one match has to exceed expectations it must be this one.

1. WrestleMania Must Let Us Forget About This Virus

If there is one thing WWE must do with WrestleMania, it’s let us forget about the Coronavirus for a few hours.

This virus has had the world panicking, it has put the world on standstill and has even affected our little Wrestling Community. WWE must bounce back, put on an entertaining show, give us feel-good moments and leave us at the end of the night glad that they made the decision to keep WrestleMania going strong.
