I think it’s fair to say that a ‘sizeable’ portion of the wrestling community are fairly fed up with mainstream WWE programming at this point.
Watching television may be a passive experience – but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be utterly exhausting. Viewing the entirety of Game Of Thrones is considered a mammoth task, with 8 series full of at least hour long episodes – but WWE can put out 7 or 8 hours of content a week.
That’s all well and good if the content is spectacular – but current storylines find themselves bogged down with needless segments and feuds that seem to go around in circles.
WWE didn’t get where it is today by putting on bad wrestling – and they’d be absolutely capable of putting on regular classics should they wish – but they’re not – and at some point we have to ask ourselves if we’d rather watch something else.
Thankfully, the world of professional wrestling is far, far wider than that of WWE – and there are countless promotions all vying for your time and attention. It would be no small feat to list every single one of them.
I have however compiled a list of ten of my favourites – each of these a real alternative for the WWE product. As great as Kaiju Big Battel and DDT are, they’re not as much of a direct alternative as any of these ten promotions. Have a look, and you might just find your new favourite brand.
