Earlier this week Jon Moxley appeared on The Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast and had an interesting story about the original plans for the main event of SummerSlam 2018.
The bout between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title featured an appearance from Braun Strowman, who threatened to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on the winner of the bout.
Instead, Strowman was beaten down by Lesnar, causing him to slip on the proverbial banana peel and get caught by Reigns.
The original plan was for The Shield to reform and help Roman win the match, Braun would then come out but not cash in because of Roman’s three-man advantage.
Moxley says Lesnar changed it an hour before the PPV went live and that “it made everyone else look stupid but Brock.”
This is not the first time there has been a change to a SummerSlam main event. In fact, it has happened on several occasions over the years, with planned matches nixed, booking changed and finishes switched.
Here’s a look at 10 times WWE changed its mind on a headline attraction at SummerSlam.
