10 WWE Underdogs Who Should Challenge For A World Championship

2020 has definitely been an unpredictable year. Even so, I don’t think any of us expected Jey Uso and Kyle O’Reilly battling for their brands’ top titles.

An unexpected challenger adds a unique level of excitement to a main event. Once the bell rings, a challenger could be three seconds away from eternal glory.

Here are 10 wrestlers who would shock the world if they were given a main event run now.

10. Cedric Alexander

After turning heel and siding with the Hurt Business, Alexander should strike while the iron is hot.

While the former ROH star has been impressive on Raw, his most iconic matches were as part of WWE’s cruiserweight division. His battle against Kota Ibushi in the Cruiserweight Classic proved to many that he’s a world class athlete.

If given the opportunity, the former Cruiserweight Champion could become a key player in Raw’s main event scene. Alexander and Drew McIntyre aren’t unfamiliar inside the ring. I think a rematch is in order, for WWE’s top prize.

9. Erik

WWE should scout their next top star from the tag division, if Jey Uso’s performance was anything to go by. While Ivar recovers from his neck surgery, Erik has the opportunity to make a viking-sized impact in the singles division.

Often overshadowed by Ivar’s impressive acrobatics, many forget just how talented Erik is. Winning gold in NJPW, ROH and NWA before arriving in NXT, Erik’s career has been eventful.

His hard-hitting style would provide trouble for any champion. No matter where the Draft places him, Erik will be a force to be reckoned with.

8. Cesaro

With his immense popularity, it’s hard to believe that Cesaro has only caught glimpses of the WWE Championship.

The current Smackdown Tag Team Champion held his own in the 2014 Elimination Chamber. Brawling with Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton demonstrated that the ‘Swiss Superman’ belonged at the top of the card.

In 2015, Cesaro had an incredible series of United States Championship matches with Cena, as part of Cena’s US Open Challenges.

After nine years with WWE, Cesaro has proven that he owns the ring, regardless of who steps through those ropes. Making this man #1 contender to a world championship would send the wrestling world into a frenzy.
