11. Pentagon Jr. – Impact World Champion [Impact]
When the Lucha Underground star won the title at Impact Redemption, it was an exciting moment for the direction of the company.
As much as I enjoy Austin Aries, Pentagon Jr’s win created a sense of new in terms of storylines and match-ups. I really dig the LU star in his role in the Lucha Libre promotion. He’s essentially a badass babyface (more so Anti-Hero), who’s pretty good on the mic (at least in his native tongue).
If you don’t know the story behind the Impact Redemption main event, it was originally set to be Austin Aries vs. Alberto El Patron for the Impact World championship.
But El Patron pulled an El Patron at a cross over event with Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling, and the company fired the former WWE champion shortly after. El Patron was scheduled to win the title from Aries at the pay-per-view.
The problem with Pentagon’s title reign is essentially the same with Marty “The Moth” Martinez’s, the company never gave the fans a chance to invest in LU star.
Instead, the company had him drop the title a few weeks later in over-booking fashion and instead of putting Pentagon in chase mode, Aries simply moved onto other opponents. A missed opportunity for two excellent workers to have a fantastic feud.
