They Were Offered A LOT of Money To Stay
So goes the song that all of the WWE departures seem to sing. Despite laying off a significant section of their staff during a pandemic to save a comparatively small amount of money, WWE tried to cling to the Revolt with a big cash offer.
Dax says:
“I don’t know if they wanted us. I just think the threat of us leaving when there’s another company getting a lot of press… they knew there were opportunities for us outside of WWE, and they wanted to keep us away from that opportunity.”
The oft-bandied around figure is 700 thousand dollar each per year, but the two men confirm it was a lot more than that. Cash doesn’t have kids so the decision was easy for him, but Dax has a family and really struggled with it. He claims that it was his grandmother who helped him see the light, she said ‘that’s a lot of money, but David, how much money do you really need’? And that sealed it.
Those Pictures Are Real, And They Would Have Done It
Oh man, these photos aren’t fake, it’s more than we could have ever hoped for. A while back these dopey-ass pictures leaked online. They depict the Revival dressed like they’d walked into a party shop called Clown Bollocks and said ‘I’ll take it’.
These were the gimmicks plans that WWE pitched to them in order to keep them. Oversized cat in the hat style hats, doo-rags, a flavour-flav shatter machine pendant. The plan actually was slightly more layered than ‘let’s embarrass these guys on their way out’, the pitch was The Revival would come out and say, WWE don’t care about serious tag wrestling, you just want the comedy teams, so hey if you want clowns, we’ll give you clowns and the whole thing would have been done out of spite.
The two men are careful to say there was more thought to it beyond, funny hat lol, but Cash says:
“I laughed out loud in front of everybody… we looked them in the face and said, ‘these are not good, these are bad. But we will do these until our contracts expire, we’ll do whatever you want. We’ll give it 100%. But there is no way we’re re-signing.”
They were taken off the road less than a week later. Dax says:
“I don’t know if, because we agreed to do it, it lost some of his hilarity to them.”
Cash finishes by saying that the only fake thing about the pictures is that somehow Dax’s package was bigger than his. Must have been a photoshop.
A Blessing From A Hitman
Leaving your job is stressful, and even after it’s done you can be plagued with thoughts of ‘have I done the right thing?’ Cash describes the day that they were released and knowing that they had made the right choice when he got a text message from Bret Hart.
“When he sent me that text, I knew we’d done the right thing. I mean he punched Vince in the face! – the guy who is the epitome of standing up for yourself took the time out of his day to text how proud he was.”
