15. Sky Sports Butchery (1996)
One for UK fans here, relating to the widely acclaimed Survivor Series ’96.
The show holds up to this day as one of the better Survivor Series events on record, featuring cracking scraps pitting Bret Hart against Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels against Sid and The Undertaker against Mankind.
UK readers that have not seen the show since it aired on Sky at the time are likely baffled by that statement.
Sky, which aired the pay-per-view several days after it was live in the US, butchered the event, removing large chunks of the show to ensure that it fit into a three-hour slot with commercials.
Although that sort of tactic might well be welcomed these days, it certainly was not then. Survivor Series was panned by UK fans in the pages of Power Slam magazine because of the hatchet job done by Sky.
