This week’s 205 Live was practically non-canon. Taking place in London, there was very little storyline progression, as WWE opted to put on a fun show including some true local talent. But did they go too far?
Show Open
The episode opened with a pre-taped segment in which Drake Maverick discussed the night’s events. He mentioned there would be two matches featuring many competitors from the UK. The General Manager stated that former UK Champion Tyler Bate would be competing in a fatal-four-way along with fellow countryman Kenny Williams.
It was then announced there would be a six-man tag team match that would see the UK’s Joseph Conners and James Drake on one side, while Flash Morgan represented the country on the other (we’ll get to their respective partners later). The commentary team then put over the wrestlers, aided by some wonderful hype cards, which included each man’s finisher and accomplishments.
This was an excellent way to start the show. They introduced the matches, while also giving a background to the competitors who many may not be aware of. The cards were an excellent touch, and it’s a wonder why WWE doesn’t make use of them more often. I must say I was a bit surprised to not see Pete Dunne. Perhaps he is too much of a star for the purple brand?
