20. Andre The Giant (1988)
Why was it bizarre?: For two reasons. The first was the way the change came about. In front of an all-time WWE record television audience (that will never be broken), Andre pinned the unbeatable Hulk Hogan’s shoulders to the mat despite The Hulkster clearly kicking out before three.
It turned out to be a plot from Andre and his wealthy ally Ted DiBiase, who had paid off ‘evil twin’ referee Earl Hebner to screw Hulk out of the title.
The second reason it was bizarre was what immediately followed in the aftermath. As part of the plot, Andre sold the WWE Title to DiBiase, ending his reign after mere minutes.
