5 Challengers If Roman Reigns Wins The Universal Title

5 Challengers If Roman Reigns Wins The Universal Title

Roman Reigns receives his shot at the Universal Championship this Sunday at Payback, in a Triple Threat match. After a six-month in-ring hiatus, dethroning The Fiend would be an explosive comeback for The Big Dog.

SmackDown’s main event scene is in need of a refresh after months of Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt feuding. Here are five men who would pose a challenge to Reigns if he wins the Universal Championship on Sunday.

5. Big E

In Roman’s absence, Big E has been rising through the ranks as a singles competitor. The former powerlifter’s transition from tandem competitor to solo star has been eventful.

What would be a bigger test for Roman than to face a wrestler so hungry for success? Both athletes are devastating powerhouses, making a match between the two a literal test of strength.

Both Big E and Reigns are looking for a serious challenge in the singles division. These two would have an amazing championship contest, putting SmackDown’s top title back on the map.

4. AJ Styles

In 2016, AJ and Roman had a phenomenal series of bouts over the WWE Championship. A lot has changed in the last four years, with both competitors becoming World Title caliber competitors.

The Big Dog and the former leader of Bullet Club have had very different paths in 2020. Other than a feud with King Corbin, Reigns has spent most of the year away from WWE. AJ’s 2020 has been a lot more eventful, facing the likes of Undertaker, Daniel Bryan and Jeff Hardy.

Styles had faced many WWE icons this year, so a title match against Roman would be a fitting culmination. If this post-WrestleMania 32 rivalry were renewed, we’d all be interested to watch two of WWE’s top talents lock up once more.
