5 Challengers If Roman Reigns Wins The Universal Title

3. Jeff Hardy

The current Intercontinental Champion has rarely crossed paths with the former Shield member.

In Roman’s absence, Jeff has become a mainstay of Smackdown. If Reigns wants to become the top star on Friday nights, he’d need to go through The Charismatic Enigma.

Jeff has spent his 2020 overcoming the odds, defeating the likes of King Corbin, Sheamus and AJ Styles. Despite holding the IC title, Hardy still has a lot to prove. A title program with Reigns could give Jeff one last main event run, a prospect that would thrill many fans.

2. Otis

2020 has been a rollercoaster, but I don’t think anyone predicted Roman Reigns battling Otis for Smackdown’s premier title.

Holding the Money In The Bank Briefcase, Otis has a guaranteed match for the Universal Championship, regardless of the holder. If Roman becomes the new champion at Payback, He’ll always have to keep one eye open for Otis’ challenge.

With an intriguing clash of styles, it would be interesting to watch the Heavy Machinery member attempt to best Reigns. Overall, this contest would be uniquely entertaining, what more could you ask for?

1. Matt Riddle

The Big Dog vs. The Stallion.

Whilst both men are polar opposites outside the ring, once the bell rings, the similarities appear. Riddle and Reigns both have used their extraordinary strength to wow audiences all over the globe.

The former UFC star utilized his MMA background to become a formidable competitor before arriving in NXT. The Big Dog transitioned from a physical footballer to an explosive in-ring performer with ease.

Both competitors’ abilities to change disciplines demonstrate their talent and hunger for success in the Squared Circle. A match between two gifted warriors deserves one place on the card, the main event.
