2. Gimmick Battle Royal – Wrestlemania X-Seven
Speaking of dumpsters, Duke ‘The Dumpster’ Droese was, of course, part of this particular match.
The battle royal, where the entrances lasted longer than the match itself, was filled with wrestlers of the past. Most of them never held a championship.
The last man standing was The Iron Sheik, as told many times before, because he was unable to take a bump outside to the ring.
The match, which featured the likes of Brother Love, Jim Cornette, Repo Man, and Sgt. Slaughter, received a ‘DUD’ by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
1. Hollywood Backlot Brawl – WrestleMania XII
The incredible Hollywood Backlot Brawl is believed by many to be the kickstart to the Attitude Era.
The pure spectacle consisted of three segments. First, a hardcore brawl in a Hollywood backlot, where, at one point Goldust legitimately (and accidentally) ran over Roddy Piper with his car.
The second segment saw both of them being involved in a car chase to the arena. The segment featured footage from the 1994 O.J. Simpson car chase.
In the ending segment Goldust and Roddy Piper entered the arena. There the two brawled even more before Roddy Piper stripped Goldust down to his lingerie to end the match.
The lingerie was a last-minute idea by Goldust, who went to the plus-size shop to get some before the show. An idea Vince McMahon loved.
We’ll just have to see what kind of wacky matches WWE comes up with for WrestleMania. Will The Boneyard Match or Bray/Cena match have to be added to the list after this year?
