Beginning in 1985, WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event returns for its 40th edition on 12 July, live from Atlanta, Georgia at the State Farm Arena.
The main event sees WCW legend Goldberg return to his old stomping grounds — a city where he played professional football for the Atlanta Falcons and famously defeated Hulk Hogan to capture the WCW World Title — for the final match of his career, taking on WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.
With only three matches currently announced for the card, there are sure to be further additions, as well as surprises.
Below are five potential surprises we could see on the show.
5. Seth Rollins Attempts To Cash-In Briefcase
On the 30 June edition of WWE Raw, Seth Rollins interrupted GUNTHER’s promo as he laid out his plans to retire Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Threatening “The Ring General” with his Money in the Bank briefcase, Rollins declared an “all-out assault on both championships” – before quickly running away when CM Punk’s music hit.
Rollins and Punk’s long-term feud looks set to continue into the summer and beyond.
At SNME, we could very well see Rollins sprint out following a GUNTHER victory, ready to cash in – only to be chased off by Punk before he seizes the opportunity.
