5 Ways AEW Dynamite Can Be A True Alternative

5 Ways AEW Dynamite Can Be A True Alternative

AEW Dynamite is right around the corner and is heading into a ratings war with WWE’s NXT starting this coming Wednesday.

In order to set itself apart from NXT, AEW is marketing itself to be the true alternative, but what does the promotion actually have to do to be different from WWE?

5. Sports Presentation

Clearly a brain-child of AEW President Tony Khan, AEW on TV will actually be leaning towards a more sports based presentation.

In fact, in the first press release for AEW TV this was also briefly mentioned. At All Out we even starting noticing a wins/losses graphic for every competitor.

If AEW goes Full Gear on that (see what I did there), it could be something that completely sets them apart from WWE’s more soap-opera style.

4. Focus On Tag Team Wrestling

Introducing the World Tag Team Championship with a tournament is a great way to do it.

Since WWE does not care one bit for its tag team divisions, you can only hope for AEW actually doing what the Young Bucks promised: focus on the tag teams.

But really, that can’t just mean good matches. The Tag Team Title should headline shows and be equal to the World Title and the Women’s World Title.

Also, they should play with various stipulations to make it feel different. Everything else would just be the same again.

3. Cater To The International Audience More

The most recent announcements of AEW regarding their international broadcasting were not met with ecstasy, to put it nicely.

With the European market – especially the United Kingdom – having an ever-growing hunger for wrestling, AEW should rethink its strategy here.

Tony Khan has promised changes for the UK, but has remained silent for almost all other markets out there. Proper TV deals would put AEW in a good position to rival WWE on the global market.

2. Create Its Own Stars

Past promotions, like TNA, always tended to bank on former WWE stars. To make a significant difference in wrestling, All Elite Wrestling has to create new stars.

But how should they do that when WCW, TNA and even WWE all struggled with that?

AEW has explored a great strategy that seems to be working. Their superior social media game and shows like Being The Elite make fans feel close to their stars.

Talent like MJF, Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy and Orange Cassidy have already clicked with the audience and more is to come. AEW should continue to follow that path.

1. Not Pull Stars From Indie Shows All The Time

Just recently, Southside Wrestling – a British promotion that announced it is going to be closing doors soon – had promised WWE talent for their farewell show.

There was an agreement between WWE and Southside, but WWE decided to pull all of their talent from the event. AEW offered to jump in and could be sending a lot of their biggest talents over.

We can allow hope that All Elite will work more with the indie promotions worldwide and won’t raid their talent.
