8 AEW Stars Who Broke Out In 2020

It’s been a great year for All Elite Wrestling! Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the promotion has continued to thrive by combining thrilling in-ring action with gripping stories.

Since its launch, AEW has done a great job of building new stars and showcasing them to a global audience. With that being said, here are eight breakout stars from the past 12 months.

8. Powerhouse Hobbs

After several months on Dark, the man now known as Powerhouse Hobbs broke out thanks to a stellar performance in the Casino Battle Royale at All Out. While Hobbs’ in-ring work speaks for itself, many fans initially had doubts over his (lack of) character.

However, this all changed last month on Dynamite when he turned on Cody Rhodes and sided with Team Taz in a shocking twist. Hobbs is a perfect fit for the group and has a big future under Taz’s guidance.

7. John Silver

The past few months have been a crazy journey for John Silver! He went from being in an undercard tag team to facing one of the most popular names in the company on pay-per-view – taking on Orange Cassidy at Full Gear.

Silver started to gain popularity due to his hilarious scenes with the Dark Order on Being the Elite. He has also proved his ability in the ring, most recently in an entertaining bout with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page on Dynamite.

6. Ricky Starks

‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks has been an excellent addition to the AEW roster. The former NWA Television Champion made a memorable debut in Cody Rhodes’ TNT Title open challenge back in June.

Since then, Starks has continued to thrive as part of Team Taz alongside Brian Cage and more recently Powerhouse Hobbs. He is a natural on the mic and possesses charisma that could see him become one of the company’s leading faces down the line.
