AEW
It’s a new day in AEW thanks to the first episode of Dynamite after All In: London, and championship challengers have emerged.
Taking place on August 30, multiple championships changed hands at AEW All In: London, with Dynamite giving an indication of what the future holds.
The September 2 episode of AEW Dynamite opened with Will Ospreay, the new World Champion, laying out a challenge for the men’s roster as the new standard, with Jon Moxley being revealed as the challenger at the end of the episode.
The Death Riders leader wasn’t the only AEW star to lay a claim on a championship, however:
Ricochet
While Ospreay set out his vision for a new United Empire in AEW, it would be Ricochet who would interrupt the new champion.
The Demand leader would reflect on his shared history with Ospreay, stating that The Aerial Assassin would not be in the position he is in without Ricochet.
With a history going back to 2013, it would be a missed opportunity to not have Ospreay and Ricochet once again, this time for the top title in AEW.
Gabe Kidd
Ricochet’s request would be interrupted by Gabe Kidd, who laid his claim on Ospreay, accusing the star of taking his chance at being the first English-born IWGP Heavyweight Champion and AEW World Champion.
Kidd wouldn’t stop at wanting to take the AEW World Championship either, threatening the safety of Ospreay and his family. With Ricochet reiterating he would be the first challenger, Kidd would say he doesn’t need the title yet, he wants Ospreay’s life, looking at the presence of The Dogs and The Demand as a “numbers game”, which brought The United Empire’s Callum Newman, HENARE and Francesco Akira to the table.
Championship match or otherwise, Gabe Kidd vs. Will Ospreay is one that could main event any pay-per-view and push the levels of brutality that have been witnessed in AEW.
The Young Bucks & FTR
With a first AEW World Trios Championship in the bag for Swerve Strickland & The New Level, that title wouldn’t specifically be referenced in the post match encounter with The Young Bucks.
With Kofi and Xavier Woods on the ramp, The Young Bucks would tease a potential match down the line. Two-time AEW World Trios Champions (and the first to hold that title), there’s every possibility that they could reunite with Kenny Omega to go for a third reign.
They would, however, find themselves drawn towards AEW All Out, thanks to Adam Copeland announcing a tables, ladders and chairs match against The Young Bucks and FTR for the World Tag Team Championship.
Josh Alexander
Darby Allin defended the TNT Championship against Mark Davis, only for Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero to deliver a post-match attack. It was the son of Sting, Steve Borden, who would make the save.
A returning Josh Alexander would assist The Don Callis Family, taking out Allin and Borden, leaving both men on the mat.
The Walking Weapon versus one of the most reckless stars in AEW is surely a match that will elevate Allin even further when it comes to intensity.
Divine Dominion
The Brawling Birds defeated Divine Dominion at All In to become AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions, with Alex Windsor facing Megan Bayne on this week’s Dynamite.
A singles victory of Bayne, it looks like the tag teams will face off again at some point in the future, with All Out coming on September 26 as a potential point.
MJF
MJF may not have been victorious in the Casino Gauntlet match, but that didn’t stop he venting his anger and targeting Will Ospreay in a backstage segment.
A three-time AEW World Champion, it’s highly likely he’s going to match Moxley’s four-time reign in the future, although Ospreay has many challengers to his crown right now.
Thekla
The new AEW Women’s World Champion was interrupted by Thekla during her celebration, with the Toxic Spider making it clear she wanted to recapture the title that Mercedes Mone had claimed from Willow Nightingale at All In: London.
While they have shared the ring previously, Thekla and Mone are yet to meet in a one-on-one encounter in AEW.
Jon Moxley
The main event of AEW Dynamite saw United Empire vs. The Demand & The Dogs, with Andrade El Idolo evening the odds for Ospreay’s team.
A victory for the United Empire saw Ospreay and Idolo shake hands, only for Kidd to attempt an attack on the champion with a steel chair. Thankfully, Jon Moxley would step in the way, giving Kidd a moment to reconsider his actions.
After it was all said and done, Moxley would return the AEW World Championship to Ospreay, sharing a silent moment with the star before it was made official that they would face each other at All Out.
AEW All Out
So far, two matches have been officially confirmed for AEW All Out, with Moxley vs. Ospreay for the World Championship and the tables, ladders and chairs match (in which ever order they are presented) between Cage & Cope, FTR and Young Bucks for the World Tag Team Championship.
AEW All Out takes place on September 26 at Now Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
