# 6 Potential Big Surprises For AEW Revolution 2024

After over two long months we once again have an AEW pay-per-view offering to eat up as Revolution 2024 is almost here.

The event has been built around the retirement of The Icon Sting, with an emotional night guaranteed for one of the all-time greats. But what of the rest of the card?

Sitting at a respectable (and not overly bloated) nine matches, it’s seeming unlikely that any more matches will be added, but with AEW and Tony Khan you never truly know.

As ever, some matches seem like foregone conclusions but even in those instances there is the possibility for a surprise or two to take place.

So, based on the current card following Dynamite we’re going to take a look at what big shocks we could see at the event, beginning with The Stinger himself…

## 6. Sting & Darby Allin Retain

Sting and Darby Allin have been as formidable a unit as any in AEW history, and it’s been nice seeing their dominance pay off in the form of the AEW Tag Team Championships.

Sting may have reportedly not been keen on the idea of winning the straps, but it’s a nice extra way to pay homage to Sting’s time in AEW by giving him one final piece of title gold.

However, with Sting hanging up his boots at Revolution many are assuming that he and Allin will finally take an L for the first time, while also obviously dropping their AEW Tag Titles to The Young Bucks.

As much as that makes sense, and seems very much like the correct etiquette for someone on their way out, there is always the possibility that AEW keeps Sting’s undefeated streak alive right until the very end.

Allin & Sting would obviously relinquish the titles afterwards so it wouldn’t do a ton of harm. Well, maybe to the Bucks but hey, it would be a nice moment to see the Hall of Famer go out on a high.

## 5. Adam Copeland Helps Daniel Garcia Win His First Title

If not for his injury, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage would likely be doing battle once again at AEW Revolution – with the Rated R Superstar long overdue that definitive win over his former tag partner.

While his replacement Daniel Garcia could be little more than a stop-gap until we eventually get that next instalment in the Copeland/Cage saga, there is a chance that the story takes a big turn and the TNT Championship exits the equation entirely.

Although not cleared to compete, Copeland could still make his presence felt and cost Cage the match, perhaps even finally convincing Killswitch to turn his back on The Patriarch in the process.

Garcia getting a big reward for his excellent in-ring work would be a nice moment, and would give Christian’s excellent character a new shot in the arm as he desperately seeks to win his title back.

## 4. Kazuchika Okada Saves Will Ospreay From The Don Callis Family

Will Ospreay’s arrival as a full-time AEW star has been met with so much fan excitement that it seems bizarre keeping him as a heel aligned with Don Callis any longer. That’s why I believe we see that relationship completely unravel at Revolution.

Considering Callis put Ospreay up against his fellow family member, it seems likely that tensions will boil over, especially when The Aerial Assassin picks up the win.

A post-match beatdown of Ospreay from Takeshita, Hobbs and even Fletcher would be a way to rubber stamp Ospreay’s turn… But also the ideal way to debut AEW’s OTHER massive NJPW signing Kazuchika Okada into the fold.

Hearing that coin drop would blow the roof off the Greensboro Coliseum – with Okada clearing the ring and forming a huge alliance between the company’s two hottest new stars.

## 3. Transitional Joe

![AEW Samoa Joe](https://cdn.wrestletalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Samoa-Joe-AEW-Title-close-dec-31.jpg)

As deserving a AEW World Champion as Samoa Joe is, there has been a nagging feeling amongst some fans that the Samoan Submission Machine could prove to be little more than a transitional champion.

I for one sincerely hope this is not the case. Joe has been a consistent highlight of AEW TV since joining the company, and it’s nice to see AEW giving the man his flowers – especially when many feared his time at the top was done after his WWE run.

Joe was built to be the perfect individual to tear the AEW World Title away from MJF, however, many immediately felt it was a matter of time until the company had to give that same belt to Swerve Strickland.

Strickland was AEW’s success story of 2023 along with Toni Storm and absolutely will become world champion. But hopefully AEW hold fire and give Joe at least until Double or Nothing to hold on to the title.

## 2. A Wild Wardlow Appears

![](https://cdn.wrestletalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Wardlow-October-19.jpg)

Wardlow is finally back on track to become the future AEW World Champion that we all thought he would be and there is a real possibility we see some major developments in the Undisputed Kingdom’s quest for dominance at Revolution.

Not only is Roderick Strong a solid bet to win the International Title from Orange Cassidy but Wardlow is set for a big night, taking part in the thrown together 8-man All-Star Scramble match – the winner of which gets a AEW World Title shot.

Now, this may be a traditional number one contender situation with Mr Mayhem having to wait for a designated match with Samoa Joe in the future.  Or… what if it was a cash-in any time kind of number one contendership?

And what if Wardlow cashed that shot in at Revolution? Sure, it would seem a bit thrown together, but having the image of the entire Undisputed Kingdom holding gold would be a cool visual for sure.

## 1. The Elite Run AEW Once Again

![](https://cdn.wrestletalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/The-Elite-Hangman-Adam-Page-Matt-Nick-Jackson-Young-Bucks-September-24.jpg)

Speaking of holding all the gold… A scenario that kind of snuck up on me when compiling this list is one that could be both the most ingenious of the lot. A fully heel Elite holding all the gold in AEW at the end of Revolution 2024.

Matthew & Nicholas embracing their EVP status has been a master stroke, and despite early skepticism they do seem like a logical antagonist to Sting at Revolution.

The possibility for nuclear levels of heat is also too tantalising to pass up. I know I said it would be nice if Sting went out on top, but it would be so much more beneficial if he helped further propel The Bucks to a new stratosphere of heeldom in my opinion.

As for Page, how about The Bucks used their power to tip the scales in his favor in the world title three-way?

For most, Page was seen as the guy to take the pin in the world title match, so how great would it be if expectations were flipped on their head and it was Page who won the belt out of complete nowhere?

Many won’t like it, but the possibility of a heel Elite all-powerful faction, leaning into their actual power in the company is something that has been staring AEW in the face for a while.

They may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is All **ELITE** Wrestling after all, so let them rule the roost and hold all the cards once Revolution goes off the air.
