Following WWE WrestleMania 42, AJ Lee announced that she was taking some time away from the company after a successful return run that started in September 2025.

Seemingly saying goodbye for now, Lee is currently on hiatus from WWE television, but she could make her way back before long.

The former WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion making a comeback could open the door for some intriguing plans when she returns.

Here are seven potential AJ Lee WWE return plans.

7. Costing Becky Lynch WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship Against Sol Ruca

In September 2025, AJ Lee made her return to WWE after over a decade away from the company.

Helping her husband CM Punk in his rivalry with Seth Rollins, Lee immediately became an opposition to Rollins’ wife Becky Lynch.

Back in November 2025, Lee cost Lynch the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Maxxine Dupri.

After winning and losing the title to Becky, Lee could make her return and immediately cost Lynch the gold once again during her upcoming title bout against Sol Ruca at WWE Clash In Italy 2026.

6. Rubber Match With Becky Lynch

At WWE Elimination Chamber 2026, AJ Lee defeated Becky Lynch to win the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

Then at WrestleMania 42 Night One, Lynch avenged that loss by defeating Lee to win back her title.

This could set the stage for a rubber match between Lynch and Lee to determine who is the better woman once and for all.

Whether it be for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship or just in a grudge match, Becky and AJ could be gearing up for a third and final match between these two legends.

5. A New Four Horsewomen Stable With Paige & The Bella Twins

At WWE WrestleMania 42 Night One, Paige made her return to team with Brie Bella in the place of Nikki Bella and won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

In a social media post, AJ Lee posed with Paige and The Bellas, calling themselves “The Original Four Horsewomen.”

Being pioneers of women’s wrestling during the Divas era, it would be interesting to see these four legends come together as a faction.

Lee’s return could see her unite with Paige, Nikki and Brie as a faction that will be looking to teach this new generation that they have a lot left in the tank.

4. First Time Ever Meeting With IYO SKY

When looking at the WWE women’s division, there might not be a more impressive in-ring performer than IYO SKY.

“The Genius of the Sky” has delivered time in and time out, proving herself to be a generational talent.

If AJ Lee makes her return, she would be hard-pressed to find any opponent who might bring out the best from her, quite like SKY.

Since becoming a pro wrestler, Roxanne Perez has made it no secret that she was inspired by AJ Lee’s career.

Forming a relationship behind-the-scenes with both Lee and her husband CM Punk, Perez has called the legendary couple her pro wrestling parents.

“The Prodigy” has established herself as one of the future top stars in the WWE women’s division and could further elevate herself up the ladder with a showdown against her mentor.

Whenever she makes her return to WWE, Lee should make it a priority to square off with her pro wrestling daughter, Perez and test her mettle to see if she is ready to take that next step in her young career.

2. Moving To SmackDown To Square Off With Rhea Ripley For WWE Women’s Championship

AJ Lee made her return to WWE for the first time in a decade on the September 5, 2025 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

While she returned on the blue brand, Lee became part of the Monday Night Raw roster alongside her husband CM Punk.

With Punk potentially on his way to SmackDown to kickstart a rivalry with Cody Rhodes over the Undisputed WWE Championship, Lee could join him on Friday nights.

If she does intend to make the move to SmackDown, Lee would be an ideal opponent for the reigning WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, which would be a tantalizing first time ever meeting between two top stars.

Someone else who had to be inspired by the career of AJ Lee is the reigning WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan.

Being fellow New Jersey natives, there are a ton of parallels in the careers of Lee and Morgan.

There is no question that Liv has firmly solidified herself as one of the biggest stars in WWE today and would make for a high profile opponent for Lee.
