5. Brock’s Phenomenal Match
One of Brock’s biggest assets as a wrestler is his ability to make a match feel big just by being in it, and not many of his matches felt bigger than one.
The show ran a Raw vs. SmackDown theme (back when the brands were actually kept separate at most pay-per-views), and part of this was to pit each brand’s top champions against one another.
In Raw’s corner was Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, and his opponent – Smackdown Live’s WWE Champion, AJ Styles. Yes, yes, so much yes.
The match, which pitted these two icons against each other for the first time ever, was nothing short of masterful – AJ’s speed, agility and ring IQ made him an actual creditable threat to Brock and there were times watching when I genuinely thought WWE were going to put the former ‘Mr. TNA‘ over their biggest star. Obviously they didn’t, but I can dream, dammit.
The match was easily the best of the night and one of Brock’s best ever WWE matches. Proof that, when paired with the right opponent and when he’s made to care, Lesnar can still produce a classic. If you missed Brock vs AJ the first time around, do yourself a favor and watch it right now.
And to think, we almost had Brock vs Jinder Mahal instead. Can you imagine?
