Every John Cena WWE WrestleMania Match Ranked

3. John Cena vs. The Rock – WrestleMania XXVIII

Once in a Lifetime. It was a real dream match when it was announced and it lived up to most of the hype.

While it is hard to call this a great match, Cena and Rock did feel special when it happened. At the time it had been almost nine years since The Rock had done a long singles match and thus moved a little clunkier than he did in his prime. The match was long too. At just over 30 minutes it sits as the second-longest singles match of The Rock’s career, with only his Iron Man match with Triple H lasting longer. In the end, The Rock was able to hit a Rock Bottom on Cena as Cena mocked the People’s Elbow.

It was probably the biggest match of John Cena’s career and it felt like something unique until they had to do it again the following year.

2. John Cena vs. Batista – WrestleMania XXVI

Batista’s run as a heel in 2010 was some of the most fun work Batista ever did in his career. His character was on point, he cut good promos, and his WrestleMania match with Cena was another great moment.

After Batista had beaten a prone Cena at Elimination Chamber thanks to Mr. McMahon, Batista was ready to exact his revenge on Cena for stealing his spotlight for the previous five years. Their match at WrestleMania XXVI was a great way to bring their whole rivalry together, with callbacks to their SummerSlam 2008 match where Batista injured Cena’s neck. Cena was able to get the STF applied after he countered the Batista Bomb and after struggling, Batista tapped out. Cena raised his ninth World Championship as he posed with the Anti-Cena fans.

1. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels – WrestleMania 23

This was John Cena’s true coronation as The Man in the WWE. The main event spot of WrestleMania 23 was given to Cena and Shawn Michaels and they did not disappoint.

Michaels brought his A-game as he looked to steal the show at WrestleMania once again and Cena held up his end of the bargain. They wrestled a great match lasting just under a half-hour. Michaels’ role was the old veteran trying to teach the younger Cena a lesson about competing on the big stage. He slapped Cena right out of the gate and went back-and-forth with him throughout the match. Cena was able to slap on the STF and submit Michaels as confetti fell and the show closed on the biggest victory of Cena’s career.
