Five Forgotten WWE Love Angles

WWE has toyed with the fantasy of two of their performers being involved in love angles multiple times.

We all remember the live sex celebration between Edge and Lita on RAW several years ago, or the slightly more romantic wedding between Randy Savage and Elizabeth.

However, there are a few love angles that you might not remember less clearly, so here are five.

5. AJ Lee & Primo

In September 2010 AJ Lee first appeared in front of a wider WWE audience when she competed in the third all-female season of NXT.

She was paired with Primo as her NXT Pro, which whom she reached the third place. During the season, a loving relationship between the Colon and Lee was teased.

On the final episode, they both engaged in a kiss. The storyline was immediately dropped afterwards.

However, Lee would go on to have relationships with Kane, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and real-life husband CM Punk afterwards.

4. Maxine & Johnny Curtis

The odd couple of Johnny Curtis (Fandango), and Maxine (Catrina in Lucha Underground) is a product of the 5th Season of NXT.

After Maxine was already in a short relationship with Derrick Bateman (now EC3), she was quickly moved in a storyline with Curtis.

The highlight of this angle was the wedding of the two in Las Vegas during the 100th episode of NXT.

After this, the angle spilt into a love square between Maxine, Curtis, Bateman and Kaitlyn.

Shortly before NXT Season 5 ended, the couple were handcuffed by Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks and forced to stay together. Maxine left WWE in June 2012.

3. Vickie Guerrero & Eric Escobar

Much like Bobby Lashley & Lana, this love angle was served as a way of revenge for Vickie Guerrero against her ex-husband Edge.

During the 10th Anniversary Show, Vickie Guerrero returned to WWE TV after a short absence with her new partner Eric Escobar.

The love angle was short-lived. Soon after, Guerrero turned on Escobar and punished him for not living up to her expectations.

While Escobar was released a few months later in January 2010, the storyline was redone with Dolph Ziggler and Guerrero to much more success.

2. Ryan Shemrock & Val Venis

Ryan Shamrock portrayed the younger sister of Ken Shamrock on WWE TV in 1999.

She made her debut as the love interest and co-star of Val Venis’ porn movie Shaving Ryan’s Privates.

The storyline was dropped a month later and Shamrock managed various superstars, like Ken Shamrock and Goldust, before leaving WWE the very same year.

1. Kelly Kelly & Drew McIntyre

In 2011 Kelly Kelly was asked out for a date by the sinister Scotsman Drew McIntyre.

Kelly Kelly refused due to McIntyre’s anger issues, which resulted in McIntyre trying to force Kelly Kelly into a date with him.

It was Edge who protected Kelly Kelly in the end, the storyline was ended after a mixed tag team match between Edge & Kelly Kelly vs. Vickie Guerrero & Drew McIntyre.

Original plans say that the story was meant for Tiffany, who was McIntyre’s wife at the time.
