Five Matches WWE Needs To Book For SummerSlam

3. AJ Styles (c) vs. Matt Riddle – Intercontinental Championship

According to recent reports, Vince McMahon is rather behind the push of SmackDown-newcomer Matt Riddle, hopefully this means that the former NXT star has a big match planned for SummerSlam next month.

Reports have also emerged suggesting that Riddle is going to be challenging AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship on the show. Hopefully, this is something that WWE is considering for the pay-per-view, as it makes the most sense.

If WWE is serious about Riddle, which they seem to be, then having him go over Styles at SummerSlam would be a fantastic way to show that Riddle is one of the top stars for the future. It also frees Styles up to move into the Universal Championship picture.

Riddle is the real deal, and SummerSlam seems like the perfect time to strap the rocket to him and propel him into one of SmackDown and WWE’s biggest stars, with a victory over a former WWE Champion.

2. Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton – WWE Championship

WrestleTalk exclusively reported that Randy Orton will more than likely challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

While Orton had been pitching to work with talent from NXT for SummerSlam, we were told that higher-ups within WWE felt that Orton would be best-suited feuding with Drew at the show.

This certainly makes a lot of sense. While Drew has been booked very strongly since winning the title, he really needs a killer feud and big win against a top opponent to be cemented as a great WWE Champion, and they don’t come much bigger than Randy Orton.

Arguably, Orton is the biggest heel in WWE right now, and a feud with Drew McIntyre would do wonders for both men, and probably make for some gripping promos and an engaging storyline.

While Drew would probably have better matches with the likes of Angel Garza, Ricochet and Kevin Owens, he really needs a huge win over a top heel like Randy Orton, and SummerSlam seems like the perfect time to do that.

5. Bayley (c) vs. Sasha Banks – SmackDown Women’s Championship

This match is probably the most predictable on the list, but it’s predictable for a reason and is certainly one that NEEDS to happen at SummerSlam.

While Bayley and Banks are doing fantastic work as a heel duo over Raw, SmackDown and NXT, there is a great deal of money in a singles feud between the current Women’s Tag Team Champions.

WWE has been teasing a feud for months, and dropping subtle hints as opposed to rushing the turn has made for some incredibly gripping television.

Over the last few weeks, WWE has proved that it has the best women’s divisionW in the world, and a showdown between Bayley and Banks, possibly even in the main event of the show, seems like a no-brainer.
