Five Matches WWE Should Book For Backlash 2020

3. Asuka (c) vs. Kairi Sane – Raw Women’s Championship

Last week on Raw, Asuka turned babyface when she was awarded the Raw Women’s Championship by Becky Lynch, who was written off of WWE TV as she and Seth Rollins are expecting their first child together.

It was reported in the days that followed that the plan is for either Nia Jax or Shayna Baszler to be Asuka’s first feud. However, for my money, it is far too soon for either in Asuka’s reign. A feud with her tag team partner Kairi Sane could be great for both women at this stage.

Not only would a match between the two former NXT Women’s Champions be FANTASTIC, but the promo work and storyline would be incredibly entertaining. Shayna Baszler could legitimately be a SummerSlam or WrestleMania match for Asuka, so it makes sense to save that feud and have a hot program with Kairi Sane as Asuka’s first as champ.

2. Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio

Last week on Raw, Seth Rollins brutally attacked Rey Mysterio, jamming his eye into the corner of the ring steps. This was fantastic work from Seth, who showed a considerably more serious side after losing a WWE Championship match to Drew McIntyre the day before.

WWE should 100% consider booking Seth and Rey in a match together at Backlash. A few weeks removed from AEW Double or Nothing, which will feature some great in-ring work, WWE should remind fans that they have the best roster in the world with some stellar action of their own.

Rollins and Rey have never gone one-on-one on pay-per-view, and a match between the two former WWE Champions could steal the show if given time, and is something WWE management has to be considering right now.

1. Daniel Bryan vs. Shinsuke Nakamura/AJ Styles – Intercontinental Championship

The Intercontinental Championship tournament kicked off last week on SmackDown, with Daniel Bryan defeating now-former WWE star Drew Gulak in a fantastic first-round match. However, the opening clash I am looking forward to most takes place this week, as Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles go one-on-one in what could be a show-stealer.

WWE has the opportunity here to make the Intercontinental Championship the title for the best wrestlers in the world, with the tournament culminating in a match between Daniel Bryan and either Shinsuke Nakamura or AJ Styles.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter which one of Styles or Nakamura wins, the prospect of a showdown on pay-per-view with Daniel Bryan is mouth-watering, and both options would really help elevate the IC Championship.

While Bryan and AJ have feuded before, the dynamics have completely switched with Bryan now as the face instead of the heel. This, coupled with the fact that Bryan and Nakamura have never faced off on WWE PPV makes either match a very intriguing prospect.
