Kenny Omega vs. Sami Zayn, Undertaker and Kane win title, Carmella’s dad wrestles on Raw

1993: Jimmy Snuka made a rare appearance on Monday Night Raw, defeating Carmella’s father Paul Van Dale in a rotten squash match. In other matches, Tatanka went to a double DQ with Rick Martel in yet another chapter in their never ending feud, and The Quebecers beat the thrown together combo of Barry Horowitz and 1-2-3 Kid.

1998: WWF Breakdown featured one of the silliest main event finishes of the Attitude Era when both The Undertaker and Kane beat Steve Austin to win the WWF Title. The confusion led to an appalling match between the two brothers at Judgment Day the following month with the title up for grabs. Elsewhere on Breakdown, Justin Bradshaw (JBL) ended Vader’s career in the Fed with a victory in a naff falls count anywhere match and The Rock looked like a superstar as he defeated Ken Shamrock and Mankind in an entertaining triple threat cage match.

1999: WCW Nitro was main evented by the dream team of Ric Flair and Bret Hart downing Diamond Dallas Page, Lex Luger and Sting via DQ (of course) in a handicap match. Also on the show, Psicosis lost his mask in a defeat to Billy Kidman.

2004: Batista pinned former Evolution teammate Randy Orton in the no DQ main event of Raw. Evolution leader Triple H lost to Shelton Benjamin, albeit via DQ, in the opener.

2005: The latest incarnation of the Legion Of Doom, Animal and Heidenreich, beat Batista and Eddie Guerrero in the main event of WWE’s SmackDown taping in Texas. Also on the show, Bob Orton Jr. wrestled his first WWE match in 18 years, losing to The Undertaker.

2008: Several independent groups from around the world united at Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton for joint show Indypendence Day. In the opening match El Generico (Sami Zayn) beat Kenny Omega in what would be something of a dream match today. Elsewhere, Roderick Strong beat current ROH booker Delirious and Nigel McGuinness downed Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) in the main event.

2009: Pro Wrestling NOAH held the first of two tribute shows to the late, great Mitsuharu Misawa, the company’s founder who had died in a freak accident in the ring three months earlier. The event, titled Great Voyage ’09 in Tokyo, sold out Budokan Hall, with Misawa prodigy (and tag partner the day he died) Go Shiozaki defeating the man who delivered the fatal suplex that killed Misawa, Akitoshi Saito. It was an emotionally charged bout, as you might expect.

2015: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Hirooki Goto in the thrilling main event of NJPW Destruction In Kobe to win the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, beginning his fifth and final run with the belt. Nakamura vacated the title in January 2016 upon signing for WWE.

2016: SmackDown Live was a three-match show, headlined by a WWE Championship match between champion AJ Styles beating former title holder Dean Ambrose. In other matches The Usos and The Ascension beat American Alpha, Heath Slater and Rhyno, and Carmella and Natalya defeated Naomi and Nikki Bella.
