Kofi Kingston Speaks On The Elite

Kofi Kingston Speaks On The Elite

When Matt and Nick Jackson made their wish to one day square off against The New Day prior to WrestleMania 34, the wrestling world let out a shriek potent enough to shatter windows. Of course, it was fantasy booking. Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods were WWE contracted talent and therefore unable to make this dream a reality.

Then, rumors began to circulate prior to Kenny Omega’s IWGP World Heavyweight Championship victory that The Elite and New Day would indeed lock horns, but in a ring where button mashing trumps a V-Trigger every day of the week. Courtesy of Xavier Woods’s popular YouTube gaming channel, UpUpDownDown, we would finally get The Elite vs The New Day in a Street Fighter battle at the E3 gaming convention.

Appearing as a guest on The Unsanctioned Podcast, Kofi Kingston spoke about working with the trio and WWE’s inter-promotional coverage of the event.

On getting the chance to work with Kenny Omega, the former Raw Tag Team Champion had this to say:

“To see where Omega’s career has gone, and to see him just rise over there in Japan has been awesome to watch. So I always regretted not being able to have personal interaction with him, so for me, it was kind of a dream come true.”

To hear how much current contracted WWE talent yearn to work with stars from other companies is refreshing. There’s a wealth of potential there should the decision makers come the same realization that devotees have known for ages; that it’s best for business.

Kofi then went on to talk about how rare the situation was and how he thought the entire plan would be cancelled:

“It was just great, man. And the Young Bucks are just so cool. It was just an instant vibe, just instant chemistry. We were all on the same page and just went out there. And honestly, the vibe in general like leading up to it was like, okay, this is probably going to get canceled because there’s no way that Vince knows this is happening. When was the last time you saw WWE doing anything inter-promotional? Granted it was on the video game stage, but still. Ever since we came out, there was talk of The Elite versus The New Day, all this talk on the internet, on social media. We get those comments every single day. And hopefully, this was like the first step to open up some doors to do more things in the future. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

While it remains to be seen what the bigwigs in Titan Towers think about Kingston’s hopes of more inter-promotional happenings, those of us who have been around the industry long enough know from experience that it can only lead to great things and some interesting television.
