5. Hangman Page vs. Lance Archer in a Texas Deathmatch for the AEW World Championship – AEW Dynamite 2/9/22
The Texas Deathmatch stipulation was supposed to work to Lance Archer’s advantage.
The Murderhawk had beaten Jon Moxley in this kind of match for the IWGP United States Championship last summer, but he was facing an extremely motivated Hangman Page on the February 9 AEW Dynamite.
The champion came out hot and blasted Archer with the AEW World Title before throwing him into a plate of glass.
With Archer bleeding from the forehead, Page hit the Buckshot Lariat. However, he couldn’t keep the challenger down that quickly.
The Murderhawk got the advantage by blasting Hangman with a trashcan lid and then repeatedly nailed him with it.
Dan Lambert paid dividends for Archer by cutting the top rope and eliminating Page’s ability to hit his Buckshot Lariat again. The fight went all over ringside, into the crowd and then back to the ring.
Both men were bleeding, giving this bout the visual representation of the Texas Deathmatch.
Archer played an ideal monster heel for Page to eventually vanquish, which he did when Hangman used the referee’s back for the Buckshot Lariat and drove the challenger through a table at ringside for the win.
