# Ranking Every AEW World Title Defense For Hangman Page

Hangman Page has been thriving as AEW World Champion despite a lack of focused attention.

All Elite Wrestling has done an exceptional job with establishing their top prize as one of the most prestigious titles in the industry today.

Part of that is due to the quality of the competitors who have held the title and the quality of the title defenses.

Following his first title defense on pay-per-view, Hangman Adam Page defended the AEW World Championship against Dante Martin.

The young upstart used his speed and unreal agility to keep the champion on his back foot early on.

This was an all-action sprint that didn’t slow down at all.

There was plenty of back and forth counters from both, including the finish that saw Hangman Page break up a springboard and then connect with the Buckshot Lariat for the win.

Page showed that he could control the pace and be the veteran in a successful title defense.

## 5. Hangman Page vs. Lance Archer in a Texas Deathmatch for the AEW World Championship – AEW Dynamite 2/9/22

The Texas Deathmatch stipulation was supposed to work to Lance Archer’s advantage.

The Murderhawk had beaten Jon Moxley in this kind of match for the IWGP United States Championship last summer, but he was facing an extremely motivated Hangman Page on the February 9 AEW Dynamite.

The champion came out hot and blasted Archer with the AEW World Title before throwing him into a plate of glass.

With Archer bleeding from the forehead, Page hit the Buckshot Lariat. However, he couldn’t keep the challenger down that quickly.

The Murderhawk got the advantage by blasting Hangman with a trashcan lid and then repeatedly nailed him with it.

Dan Lambert paid dividends for Archer by cutting the top rope and eliminating Page’s ability to hit his Buckshot Lariat again. The fight went all over ringside, into the crowd and then back to the ring.

Both men were bleeding, giving this bout the visual representation of the Texas Deathmatch.

Archer played an ideal monster heel for Page to eventually vanquish, which he did when Hangman used the referee’s back for the Buckshot Lariat and drove the challenger through a table at ringside for the win.

## 4. Hangman Page vs. Adam Cole in a Texas Deathmatch for the AEW World Championship – AEW Rampage 4/15/22

From one Texas Deathmatch to another, Hangman Adam Page used the stipulation to finally put an end to his feud with Adam Cole on the April 15 edition of AEW Rampage.

Both men came in their street clothes and immediately set the tone with a steel chair joust.

Page and Cole fight into the crowd and all over the ringside area. Hangman ran Cole’s head into a steel chair in the corner to split him open.

Adam Cole tied a steel chain on the top rope and clotheslined the champion. The challenger then set up two steel chairs, but Hangman dropped him on both with a DVD.

There were exciting counters and use of various weapons. One of the best highlights had to be Cole catching Page with a superkick in mid-air on a moonsault that busted his chin open.

Just when Page looked to put Cole away with a barbwire steel chair while the challenger was tied to the top rope, he had remorse for his former friend.

Cole responded with a low blow and eventually looked for the Panama Sunrise on the apron, but Page blocked with a barbwire forearm to the challenger.

Hangman followed up with placing a barbwire crown of thorns on Cole’s head before hitting the Deadeye off the apron through a table at ringside for the win.

This encounter felt like a PPV quality showdown with high risk being made and some very good storytelling.

## 3. Hangman Page vs. Adam Cole for the AEW World Championship – AEW Revolution 2022

The rivalry between Hangman Adam Page and Adam Cole came to a head in the main event of AEW Revolution 2022.

This had the big match feel right from the start with elaborate entrance and pay-per-view gear for both men. The contest started with some good mat work before it broke down into a fight.

Both stars hit big moves with some thrilling counters back and forth. Page hit a moonsault fallaway slam off the top rope for a nearfall, while Cole hit the Panama Sunrise on the floor for a nearfall of his own.

Adam Cole hit a series of superkicks and had reDRagon come down to assist their friend.

Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish moved the timekeeper’s table near the apron, but Page reversed Cole and drove him through the table with a Deadeye.

The Dark Order came down to fight off reDRagon. Hangman hit the Buckshot Lariat for another close nearfall.

Hangman Page looked for revenge on Cole by tying him to the top rope in a similar fashion to what the challenger did to him and started landing some superkicks of his own.

After taking a superkick from Cole, Hangman landed one more of his own, then hit The Boom and hit one more Buckshot Lariat to retain the AEW World Title.

This was an excellent main event that told an effective story to give the champion a quality win at the end of a great pay-per-view.

## 2. Hangman Page vs. Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship – AEW Dynamite 1/5/22

![](https://cdn.wrestletalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Page-Danielson-II-April-2022.png)

After a stellar one-hour draw at Winter Is Coming, Hangman Adam Page and Bryan Danielson met again on the January 5 edition of AEW Dynamite.

This was also the first Dynamite to air on TBS Network and kicked off with an AEW World Championship bout.

To make sure it didn’t end in another draw, there were judges in place. Mark Henry, Jerry Lynn and Paul Wight sat at ringside to determine a winner if it went the full 60 minutes again.

Hangman Page started the matchup different from last time, charging Bryan at the bell. However, Danielson avoided Page and made everyone feel like he was in full control.

The intensity and pace was ramped up and gave the feeling that it wouldn’t go an hour this time.

Page was once again busted open after going head-first into the steel steps. Bryan attacked the cut as well as the champion’s shoulder after an errant dive.

Danielson’s relentless assault slowed down a bit when Page eventually busted Bryan open.

The two stars gave the fans a bloody war that was fascinating to watch unfold with some breathtaking sequences, including an incredible moonsault fallaway slam off the top rope by Hangman.

Page kept going for the Buckshot Lariat, but Bryan kept avoiding it and eventually hit the Busaiku Knee for a nearfall.

After some unbelievable counters and selling from both, Hangman eventually hit the Buckshot Lariat to retain the AEW World Title in just under 30 minutes.

It was an amazing counter that featured two men desperate to get the win and told a completely different story from their first clash.

## 1. Hangman Page vs. Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship – AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming 2021 12/15/21

The sequel was a fantastic blood bath, but the first meeting was an epic 60 minute broadway.

The contest started out slow with Bryan Danielson showing he was the better wrestler and being an absolute jerk about it.

The American Dragon constantly controlled the pace and used his expert mat work to ground the champion. He initially focused on Page’s ribs and continued his attack.

The match shifted into another gear after Bryan grabbed Page’s arms and drove him head-first into the ring post to split him open.

The blood was pouring everywhere and felt like Hangman was having a struggle to fight through the pain.

Danielson got some nearfalls and eventually went for the Cattle Mutilation, but Page made it to the ropes.

The bout hit yet another gear when Bryan missed a running knee into the ring post. Hangman focused his attack on his knee and even applied the Figure Four before Danielson got to the ropes.

There were big moves traded and some exhilarating sequences. With 56 minutes past, Page hit the Deadeye for a close nearfall.

Danielson reversed the Buckshot Lariat into the Labell Lock, but Hangman fought out and eventually got to the apron to hit the Buckshot Lariat, but when Page crawled for the cover, time eventually ran out.

This was the longest match in AEW Dynamite history and told a riveting story that had the fans on the edge of their seats.

This was one of the best AEW World Title matches in the company’s history and easily the best Hangman Page title defense of his current reign.
