Ten Biggest Takeaways From WWE 24: Edge

Ten Biggest Takeaways From WWE 24: Edge

10. The Documentary was Supposed to be About Retirement

Right off the bat, Edge revealed that this documentary was supposed to be different. This was originally meant to be about life after wrestling but that quickly changed when he realized his condition had improved greatly.

There is still footage in the documentary from the original storyline as Edge brought a WWE camera crew to the building where he trained to wrestle and the park where he had his first match. Needless to say, it would have been a much more somber of a documentary without the change in direction.

9. Vince McMahon Called Edge Personally to Break the Retirement News

When Edge wrestled Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, no one knew it would be his last match on television. He had been in rough shape and mentioned during the doc that Christian was the only person he told about the extent of his condition. After the match, he went and got more tests done.

Christian revealed in the documentary that Vince McMahon called Edge to break the news to him personally. Edge’s relationship with Vince is referenced throughout the doc and this was one of the biggest examples of the respect Vince has for his star.

8. Edge Couldn’t Go 2-3 Hours Without Lying Down

The extent of Edge’s condition had been talked about here and there over the years but this provided the best description of the pain Edge was in. Prior to his second neck surgery, he was unable to go more than two-three hours without lying down to rest his neck.

Beth Phoenix also mentioned he had difficulty holding a coffee mug without discomfort. That is some scary stuff. You think about not wrestling as being life-changing but not being able to perform day-to-day tasks without pain is far more terrifying.
