Brian Cage defeats Jake Crist w/ Dave Crist and Sami Callihan

The announcers put over Brian Cage big time in this match, and who can blame them? Cage is a freak. He’s got a great blend of power and agility and he can move his 270 pounds in impressive ways.

Callihan and Dave Crist get involved early. I’m not sure where the referee was or what he was looking at during this time – why weren’t they disqualified? Who knows.

Crist got the upperhand for a little bit and went for an arm bar, which Cage powered out of with a nasty looking back breaker before hitting the drill claw for the win.  This was a decent TV match.  I like wrestling on my wrestling shows and we’ve had two pretty good matches so far.

After the match, Callihan and oVe attacked Cage. The lights went out and Dave Crist had disappeared. Then we see Crist tied up and gagged in the back by the Lucha Brothers. The lights were off for no more than a minute. I knew the the Lucha Brothers were quick, but that was fast. To get a man to the back, tie him up, and get the camera set up in that amount of time was unbelievable, even for wrestling.

The Luchas hit Crist with 2 x 4’s and a couple of super kicks, then we cut back to the ring where Cage hits a big dive to the outside.

Not the best angle or execution here. It seems like Impact are running out of ideas a little bit in the build to Bound for Glory. I’m still looking forward to this match, but tonight stalled a bit for me.

Aries and Crew Backstage Promo:

Austin Aries is firing on all cylinders right now. It might be that he’s trying to prove a point to WWE, but whatever the reason, he’s putting in an inspired effort of late in Impact. Moose has some work to do on the microphone, but he’s not the worst I’ve ever heard. Killer Cross is intense. Rumors have it that WWE is interested in him. I can see why; he’s got a great look and a ton of potential. He’d be smart to learn from Aries.

We get Joe Hendry and Grado talking backstage. Katarina walks up and tries to talk but they keep interrupting her by singing Access Denied. She finally talks and a spooky clown appears behind them. Katarina talks about the history of clowns in wrestling and it is revealed that Joe will be facing Murder Clown next week.

Muuurrrrderrrrr Clownnnn!!!

Okay, so this was a segment. It had a clown, Joe Hendry, and a Mexican wrestler wearing a mask. I know Grado has some good qualities, but I don’t love his over the top acting in these segments.

We also get a Scarlett Bordeaux announcement. She claims she’s changed the game since she’s joined Impact. She’s got a show, made hot shaming trend, and got a midcarder within 1/8th of a second of being a champion. Now she’s looking for a person to put her efforts behind.

I’m interested to see who she will pair with as she definitely has the potential to be a great manager. I’m not sure who on the roster would benefit from her services though. I could see Eli Drake here, or perhaps a KM turn. Other than that, maybe she’ll pick a knockout to work with. Either way, I think it’s worth tuning in for.
