10. Team WWE vs. Team Nexus (Summerslam 2010)
Let’s get this straight; this match wasn’t awful. The only thing that was wrong with the teams was that Bret Hart was in the match, since he couldn’t take bumps due to his stroke. You could’ve added anyone else to that match, and you would’ve been fine. The reason this match was bad, was the ending, but before we get into the that, let’s talk about the Nexus.
The Nexus, up to that point, had been portrayed on TV as this unstoppable group of rebels, who had been trying to take over the WWE, in a similar vein to the NWO. They could’ve won this match, giving them a lot of credibility and momentum for defeating the best of the best on Raw. However, the finish of this match was John Cena eliminating Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett (the leader) within seconds after getting DDT’d on the exposed concrete. This was during the ‘Super Cena phase of RAW, and this win for Cena almost completely killed the momentum of the group.
The group forced Cena in the group, but after this loss, you could not see the group as a legitimate threat after the ending of that match. Again, this match, on its own, is not horrible, but the finish completely destroyed a whole lot of promising young careers and was another example of Cena winning when it was not necessary.
