Top 10 Worst WWE SummerSlam Matches

9. Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna (Summerslam 1993)

This is another case of a decent match that was completely ruined by the ending. In the build up for this WWF Title bout, Lex Luger was campaigning for a WWF Title match, and gaining a lot of momentum for the main event encounter. This match was supposed to be Lex’s one and done with the WWF Title picture, as he was supposed to either win, or never get another shot at the title while Yokozuna was champion. One of Yokozuna’s managers, Jim Cornette, even said that Lex would’ve looked like a “plate full of p*ss” if he had lost. So naturally, you wouldn’t think that someone would book Luger to lose, right?

Before the match, according to Jim Cornette, Vince McMahon decided that he wanted to stretch Lex Luger’s title hunt to WrestleMania 10. For that reason, the match ended in a count-out win for Luger, after he had knocked Yokozuna out of the ring with his forearm that was replaced with a metal plate. Not only that, but Luger celebrated like he won the title, which soured a lot of people on the ‘All American Hero’ due to his positive attitude for losing his “one and only” match for the WWF Title.

And just like that, all the momentum Luger had attained was gone, and no amount of victories over Ludvig Borga were going to change that. You may be wondering why the first two matches on this list were decent matches with bad finishes. That’s because matches like these are supposed to make both sides look good, but these matches made one side look bad, to the point where they would never recover.
