# 6 Twists We Could See At WWE Elimination Chamber 2023

It’s almost time for the redheaded stepchild of the WWE calendar: Elimination Chamber.

Not quite iconic enough to be considered an honorary Big Four Event like its more attractive sister Money In The Bank, but far too important (due to its placement right before WrestleMania) to be thought of as a B-show, Limmy Chambles is the ultimate mixed bag pay-per-view.

This year, however – between a potential conclusion to Sami Zayn’s Bloodline storyline and some genuine wildcards in the women’s and US Title pictures – this year’s show has a real shot at being one of the most talked about wrestling events of the year.

If that’s going to be the case, though, WWE is going to have to pull out some really big curveballs to keep things interesting.

So without further ado, here are six twists Triple H could book for this year’s Elimination Chamber:

## Somebody Other Than Asuka Wins The Women’s Elimination Chamber

It’s funny; just a few weeks ago many of us were totally convinced that Rhea Ripley would be winning the Women’s Royal Rumble match so that she could go on to face Bianca Belair at WrestleMania.

Well, we were half right; Ripley won the match, and then declared her opponent would be Charlotte Flair two nights later on Raw.

While the match makes sense, if you think about it (if we’re being honest, Flair and Ripley have a lot more history together, and there was more than a hint of fantasy booking to Ripley vs Bianca), it does leave the question of who will face Bianca for the big red come ‘Mania.

At the moment the favorite seems to be Asuka, who debuted her new gimmick of “Doink, but hot” at the Royal Rumble and seems like a good foil for Belair.

But with opponents such as Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez announced for the match – two women who arguably had a much more interesting 2022 than Asuka and could certainly use the spotlight more – at this point the more interesting choice might be a wildcard.

## John Cena Enters The Men’s Elimination Chamber

Austin Theory is such a bizarre, confusing character at this point.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s great, but when he was brought up to the main roster in 2021 his entire gimmick seemed to boil down to “Mr McMahon’s new toy”.

While at the time it made total sense to pit him against a prior McMahon favorite – namely John Cena – at some point in the future, the logic behind that has become kind of shaky ever since Vince departed for Parts Unknown (i.e. anywhere except on television).

That being said, a Theory/Cena match up still sounds like a pretty good time to me, so what better time to start laying the foundation than at the Men’s Elimination Chamber match for the US Championship?

You could have this go a few ways to set up a match at ‘Mania: Cena beats Theory and the two have a rematch in April for the belt; Cena causes somebody other than Theory to win and they have a ‘Mania grudge match; or maybe Theory retains and Cena does that weird heel-babyface thing where he just uses his clout to get a rematch.

You could also just have Cena interfere in the match, rather than being a full participant.

Hey, speaking of interference…

## Jey Uso Interferes In Sami Vs. Roman

People sometimes forget that this whole Tribal Chief thing started as a grudge between Jey Uso and Roman Reigns.

Seriously, in late 2020/early 2021, Jey was the biggest babyface in the world, embroiled in an intense psychodrama with his slowly-unravelling cousin.

He was basically the Thunderdome’s equivalent of Sami Uso, and if there had been crowds at the time they’d probably have argued that he should replace Edge and D-Bry in the main event of WrestleMania 37.

In a lot of ways the Bloodline story has always been about him; abused into submission by his cousin, rejecting and then fully embracing Sami, before ultimately turning his back on his family for the greater good.

While there isn’t a hope in hell for Sami to win against Roman six weeks out from ‘Mania, if he ever did stand a chance it would be because of the involvement of his one-time rival-turned-brother Jey.

I guess the only question is: who would he side with?

If Triple H decides that he wants us to suffer, he could do that classic NXT thing and cost Sami the title at the last second via a not-so-shocking Jey Uso heel turn.

But if he sides with Sami…

## Sami Zayn Beats Roman Reigns

Look, it obviously isn’t going to happen. I’m not a child. I’m from the streets, I know stuff.

But could you IMAGINE.

I’m not one to prioritize pops over coherent storytelling – truth be told I detest wrestling audiences and wish we could go back to the Performance Center era (minus, you know, the plague) – but if Sami won that belt in Montreal, they’d be able to hear it all the way back in El Generico’s Mexican orphanage.

Would ending a three-year title reign mere weeks before the biggest show of the year be a wise move? Who’s to say? (No, of course not, no, obviously)

But sometimes you have to just throw your hands in the air and say “screw money – I just want nice things to happen” (you know, like WWE is always saying).

Of course that would leave you with one pretty big loose end…

## Cody Screws Sami

If you thought that last entry was crazy, I just want you to know that we have not yet begun to plumb the depths of my fantasy booking insanity.

I’ve been thinking long and hard about how to resolve this Sami/Roman/Cody love triangle and I’ve decided: we have to Daniel Bryan this b\*\*\*h.

That’s right, we’re doing a triple threat where both of the actual draws in the match are inexplicably heel.

“But Ryan, how could we possibly turn one of the most over babyfaces in the company heel in time for ‘Mania?” I hear you ask, banana puree dribbling down your bib.

By having him suddenly – yet inevitably – betray Sami Zayn on the biggest night of his life, of course.

Would the crowd buy it? I honestly have no idea. But if you don’t think Cody Rhodes can work as a heel, just remember that he spent the last six months of his AEW run as the biggest heel in the company without even meaning to.

## Stone Cold Shows Up

Just a few months ago it felt like the sky was the limit when it came to potential legends matches at this year’s ‘Mania.

There was a point where we knew, without a shadow of a doubt in our minds, that the Rock was going to win the Royal Rumble.

Then it was Stone Cold Steve Austin, after a series of reports implied that he’d been tapped for a “big match” at the show of shows.

When the big night came we were all very disappointed to learn that instead of a bunch of shallow nostalgia pops, we’d instead be getting a really solid Rumble filled with full timers.

Monsters.

But there’s still time. Stone Cold is still rumored to make a stop at the Grandest Stage of them All, so what better time to set that up than by having him show up at the final pay-per-view on the Road to WrestleMania?

Maybe he can have a quick stare down with Gunther; or offer to put that young whippersnapper Austin Theory in his place for stealing his name.
