Where Are They Now – WWE Survivor Series 1997

The Headbangers and The New Blackjacks

The Headbangers: After lasting longer than was comprehensible considering they were never over and were not particularly good workers, the duo were released in 2000 (Thrasher) and 2001 (Mosh). They reunited on the indies in 2011 and even wrestled for Ring Of Honor in 2012, courtesy of Jim Cornette bringing them in. Following the WWE brand split in 2016, the Headbangers were brought back to the promotion for a brief spell to fill out the SmackDown tag title tournament. They continue to team regularly to this day.

Blackjack Bradshaw: Spent years messing around in the midcard with Ron Simmons in the APA before eventually flying solo in 2004 repackaged as a main event star. Became JBL, Vince McMahon’s projection of himself if he were a wrestler. Sure enough, he held the WWE Title for almost a year. Stayed with WWE after retirement as a commentator over two spells until departing the position in 2017 to focus on humanitarian ventures. Remains on the WWE payroll as an ambassador.

Blackjack Windham: As had been the case throughout his career, Windham’s third WWE spell was another massive letdown. Left the promotion six months later after a defeat to Bradshaw and rejoined WCW. Joined the West Texas Rednecks stable, which is fondly remembered but was actually a bit crap. Left WCW and departed the mainstream wrestling business in 1999. Was brought into WWE for a spell behind the scenes in 2007 but it did not last long. Was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012 as part of the Four Horsemen, just six months after suffering a near-fatal heart attack.
