WrestleMania 39 Card Leaked

WrestleMania 39 Card Leaked WWE

An updated version of this article can be found at this link.

A look at several planned matches that have been leaked for WrestleMania 39, as well as how the rest of the card could shape up.

WrestleMania season is fast approaching, so let’s take a look…

Official WrestleMania 39 Matches

We’re now just two months out from WrestleMania and starting to get a better picture of what the card is going to look like.

WWE has obviously made a couple of matches official coming out of Royal Rumble, there are some that look the pretty obvious direction from TV, but now a number of plans are starting to leak as well.

The matches that are official are Roman Reigns defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes, and Charlotte Flair defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley.

I’m glad my pitch in a previous article for Ripley to pick Flair instead of Bianca Belair was taken into account, thanks for reading Paul.

Leaked WrestleMania 39 Matches

Anyway, the matches that are “confirmed” via leakage – which is a word I just made up – are Austin Theory vs John Cena, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler challenging Dakota Kai & IYO SKY for the Women’s Tag Team Championship, and GUNTHER defending the Intercontinental Title in a three-way against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre.

I’m really glad Theory is getting the match with Cena after it came out that Logan Paul had pitched a match against Cena for himself.

Not that Paul vs Cena wouldn’t have been great, but Cena is Theory’s childhood hero and you never know when the opportunity is gonna come around again with Cena’s schedule (look at The Rock for an example of that situation).

Plus, Theory’s your future full-time guy and you needed to give him something big here. If Cena’s available at SummerSlam or next year’s WrestleMania, sure, do your Logan Paul match then, but the time is now for Theory vs Cena while we know we have the chance.

I think it’s a really good sign that Levesque went this route (for the reasons I’ve explained) rather than just leaping into the short-term benefit of Paul vs Cena.

Theory is currently the United States Champion so it’s possible the match will be for that, but that’s unconfirmed and he may have lost it by the time we get to Mania.

But I think it would be a nice boost to the belt to have that on the line. Depends who’s winning really – Cena can’t win the title if he won’t be around to defend it afterwards.

It may also depend on plans for other people, which I’ll touch on a bit later.

With Rousey and Baszler vs Damage CTRL, Rousey has publicly stated this is something she’s wanted to do, so hopefully some enthusiasm will shine through.

Having her in a tag match is a good idea too so she doesn’t have to do too much of the actual work, she can just hot tag in and batter everyone.

Speaking of battering everyone, GUNTHER vs Sheamus vs Drew McIntyre sounds A BIT GUD M8.

Obviously we kind of had the GUNTHER vs Brock Lesnar carrot dangled in front of us, and quite frankly, nothing will ever compare to that, but as far as alternatives go, I can’t think of a better one.

GUNTHER and Brock Lesnar had a direct faceoff in the Royal Rumble match

The only issue is it comes at a really awkward time where GUNTHER would be close to another record and it would be a shame for him to drop the title, BUT, how great would it be for Sheamus to finally win the one accolade that’s eluded him throughout his WWE career, at WrestleMania of all places.

It’s a toss-up, and that’ll make it even better.

So I reckon we can go with the idea that those five matches are all on.

Other Likely WrestleMania 39 Matches

That leaves us to figure out the rest of the puzzle from what we’re seeing play out on TV.

Let’s start with one that’s half-confirmed, which is Bianca Belair defending the Raw Women’s Title against the winner of the upcoming Elimination Chamber.

I mentioned earlier that I’d previously suggested Ripley vs Flair instead of Ripley vs Belair – despite the majority people wanting the latter. I just think they’ll both be bigger stars next year and that’ll be the time to do it.

But when I said that, the alternative I gave for Belair was a three-way with Bayley and Becky Lynch.

I had, admittedly, forgotten about Asuka, who now looks to be the favorite as she is in the Chamber match after returning with her new (or old) gimmick.

So I think you have to look at Belair vs Asuka as the one here. Where does that leave Bayley and Lynch? I dunno, maybe another rematch between those two, which would be nice as it gives you four women’s matches that all have meaning instead of a thrown-together-multi-woman-scramble-battle-turmoil thing just for the sake of it.

Bayley and Becky Lynch were supposed to have a steel cage match at Raw 30, but it got cut due to time constraints

There is another that seems nailed on despite them both being on separate brands at the minute, and that’s Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio.

It was a great call a few months ago to keep them apart until you could do the match at Mania – it would have been impossible to have them on the same brand and wait that long.

But that match has to be on.

Someone who HAS to be accounted for is Sami Zayn, who, let’s be honest, should be getting the main event title match against Roman Reigns, but that’ll be happening at Elimination Chamber in his hometown of Montreal instead.

The idea going way back was Zayn and Kevin Owens challenging the Usos for the tag team title, and that looks to be the way things are going. Although there is a bit of a question mark over the allegiances of Jey Uso.

We mentioned GUNTHER vs Lesnar not happening earlier, so where does that leave Lesnar? It would have been easy to say Lesnar vs Lashley, BUT, Lesnar is confirmed to be wrestling at Elimination Chamber, and considering Lashley isn’t in the US Title Chamber match, it seems like we’re getting that match there.

Would we really get it at BOTH Chamber and WrestleMania? They’re tied 1-1 right now, so that would be weird unless we get some kind of screwy finish at Chamber.

It’s probably still the best bet though, because if GUNTHER is accounted for, who’s left for Lesnar? And even if you can think of someone, who’s left for Lashley? Just seems like it has to be those two.

We mentioned Logan Paul not getting the John Cena match he wanted – he looks like a certainty to be facing Seth Rollins after Royal Rumble, which sounds pretty great.

Logan Paul went viral again with an insane stunt alongside Ricochet during the Royal Rumble

That leaves the only major people I haven’t mentioned as the Edge vs Judgment Day situation.

The Rey vs Dominik match ties in, and Rhea Ripley is pre-occupied so if there’s a mixed tag happening, it’ll likely be at Elimination Chamber.

That means the likely scenario is Edge vs Finn Balor, but, I kind of feel for Damian Priest if that’s the case.

The only thing I can think of is if he wins the US Title Elimination Chamber and defends the title in some kind of multi-man match at Mania. Otherwise him not being involved just seems… unfair.

Obviously just take your pick of five or seven other people to be involved in that. It’s been a little while since we’ve had a midcard title ladder match at WrestleMania.

Oh and I nearly forgot, there’s also going to be some Bray Wyatt-based fun going on isn’t there. Yay. I’m not even going to attempt to guess what that’s going to be. Perhaps it’ll include Alexa Bliss so we can keep all of that nonsense in one place instead of spreading it out.

The Bray Wyatt vs LA Knight Mountain Dew Pitch Black match is most certainly a thing that happened

The Bray Wyatt vs LA Knight Mountain Dew Pitch Black match is most certainly a thing that happened

So in summary, have a look at what I’ve amalgamated as a likely card at this point.

Matches with one * are what we can call certainties, and matches with two ** are pretty much just guesses, but kind of educated ones.

* Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

* Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley – SmackDown Women’s Championship

* Austin Theory vs. John Cena

* Dakota Kai & IYO SKY (c) vs. Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler – Women’s Tag Team Championship

* GUNTHER (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus – Intercontinental Championship

* Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka – Raw Women’s Championship

** Bayley vs. Becky Lynch

* Dominik Mysterio vs. Rey Mysterio

* The Usos (c) vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn – Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship

** Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar

* Logan Paul vs. Seth Rollins

** Edge vs. Finn Balor

** Damian Priest defending the US Title in a multi-man match

* Some Bray Wyatt nonsense, possibly involving Alexa Bliss

Excluding people you could probably just shove in the US Title match, or who could get involved in any of the above matches as peripheral people (like Imperium and the Brawling Brutes who could be involved in the IC Title three-way, or Solo Sikoa in any Bloodline business), that leaves the following notable names not accounted for:

* Braun Strowman

* Karrion Kross

* LA Knight

Hopefully LA Knight wasn’t too buried by Wyatt and he can manage to have something to do at WrestleMania. I actually noticed they recently started announcing him as being from LA – I think he’d make a great WrestleMania host if you want to go that route.

And maybe Braun can come out and get a pop for attacking him. That solves that.

I’ve also just remembered Pat McAfee exists, and McAfee vs Knight sounds like incredible TV. The buildup even more so than the match itself, but the match would be good too.

As for Kross… I dunno. I like him, but yeah, I’m really struggling to see where he fits into the WrestleMania equation. Just doing a Kross singles match against some bloke like Ricochet doesn’t seem very WrestleMania-y… but maybe.

I can’t wait to look back at this in two months and see how wrong right I was.
