WrestleTalk Roundtable – WWE Raw – December 17, 2018

What was your favorite moment from Raw?

Eric Stites

I enjoyed the women’s gauntlet match. It wasn’t too long in my opinion and it had plenty of good wrestling. I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t really like what happened to set up this gauntlet match. I think the match itself was pretty entertaining. Natalya’s victory is very intriguing. She’s facing Ronda for the title next week, and may have been foreshadowing for a Natalya heel turn. Good finish to the show.

Women’s gauntlet match. Although I would have liked a different result (to see Sasha win and face Rousey next week), the match quality was good. Also, it was a welcome change from the usual core of women who have been main-eventing Raw since forever. It’s as simple as, I enjoy several straight minutes of in-ring action with something on the line. Seeing Natalya win–maybe that’s a reward for having to put up with the tasteless storyline of her deceased father being mocked by Ruby?

I was impressed with the overall flow of the show. Although, it had its issues and questions left unanswered. The McMahon family reunion, in particular, has given rise to a seemingly infinite number of new questions about what all of the nonsense they said actually means.

Despite that, I finally had a Raw where I didn’t feel like my patience had expired early in hour two. Three hours is still a long show, but this time it felt like less, not more.

There were several moments that made me happy on Raw. The first was definitely seeing Tyler Breeze getting some TV time and looking good in a competitive match with Dean Ambrose. ‘Prince Pretty’ has long been overlooked and underutilized. It’s my hope this is a sign of things changing. Another moment that brought a smile to my face was the fact that The Revival won a fatal 4 way tag team match to earn a title shot against Bobby Roode and Chad Gable. Given a good amount of time, the four of them can steal the show at whatever event this title match takes.

Then there was the Women’s Gauntlet match. The match had stakes, a title shot next Raw against Ronda Rousey, and it was competitive. All the women had their moment to shine and each one of them kept me engaged in the match. Natalya winning was a welcomed surprise. If given enough time for the match, Ronda and Natayla could steal the show. Natalya can give Rousey an exciting match and take her to another level.
