Not everything plan goes smoothly in WWE, as matches are often changed or outright canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, or just by management’s choice.
There have been several cases recently where matches that seemed set to happen were called off, and we ultimately didn’t get to see them, or at least not yet.
Here are five WWE matches that were recently planned but ended up being canceled.
5. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens
One of the high-profile news stories of the past few weeks and especially this past weekend was the planned Randy Orton vs Kevin Owens match at WrestleMania 41.
A couple of weeks before WrestleMania, Kevin Owens was informed he needed to undergo neck surgery, meaning his wrestling future is up in the air, and the match with Orton had to be canceled.
Instead, Orton held an “open challenge” at WrestleMania, which was answered by TNA World Champion Joe Hendry, reportedly handpicked by Orton himself over other options that had been pitched, including Jeff Hardy.
While a positive came out of it in the sense of it being a major moment for Hendry and the surprise was a fun moment for fans, it’s a shame Owens missed out on a big marquee match that would have been another milestone in his career.
