Fans in Mexico City witnessed a new Undisputed WWE Champion being crowned on SmackDown, with Sami Zayn reclaiming the title.

Since then, five other championships under the WWE banner have also changed hands on shows which took place over the weekend.

From surprise challengers winning title open challenges, to world championships changing hands in dark matches, the past few days have reaffirmed that anything can happen in WWE.

Here are the six WWE championship switches which took place at shows over the weekend.

Sami Zayn wins the Undisputed WWE Championship

A huge title change took place on Friday Night SmackDown, with Sami Zayn winning back the Undisputed WWE Championship on the September 11 show.

Sami Zayn challenged for CM Punk’s gold in the main event of the show, and was victorious, following interference from Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens.

Zayn’s first Undisputed WWE Championship reign ended after just nine days, with CM Punk winning the gold in his return match on the July 6 Raw episode in Chicago.

The former champion had remained in the title picture since then, interfering in several CM Punk matches ahead of claiming back the title on Friday.

This victory makes Sami Zayn a two-time WWE Grand Slam winner, with the current champion having won all required titles at least twice over.

Los Perros del Mal win the AAA World Trios Championship

This wasn’t the only title to change hands on Friday night, with Los Perros del Mal winning the AAA World Trios Championship during the first night of Triplemanía 34.

In the only title change of night one of the AAA event, Daga, Angel and Berto defeated Psycho Clown, Murder Clown and Dave The Clown of Psycho Circus to claim the title.

The Los Perros del Mal faction was revived on the June 20 AAA episode, with Karmen Petrovic, Angel, Berto, Bronco Nima and Daga being part of the initial revived lineup. Damian 666 was later added to the group, and Bronco Nima kicked out, ahead of his Raw debut.

Karmen Petrovic previously indicated that Los Perros del Mal’s reforming segment would’ve been a “one and done” if the crowd wasn’t behind the revival. This championship switch that WWE and AAA have faith in the group.

Stephanie Vaquer wins the Women’s World Championship

For the first time since 2019, a main roster WWE championship changed hands at a non-televised live event over the weekend.

Liv Morgan defended the Women’s World Championship against Stephanie Vaquer on Saturday (September 12), at a house show in Vaquer’s home country of Chile.

The challenger was ultimately victorious, with Special Referee Becky Lynch counting the fall to see Vaquer win a world title in front of her home crowd.

Vaquer had dropped the title to Morgan at WrestleMania 42 in April. Since their returns on the August 3 Raw episode, both Vaquer and Lynch have been chasing Liv Morgan, with the duo finally dethroning her on Saturday night.

La Catalina wins the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship

The first title change on night two of Triplemanía 34 was a huge one, with Flammer’s 1128 day Reina de Reinas Championship reign coming to an end.

La Catalina dethroned Flammer, defeating her after 10 minutes of action to win AAA’s top women’s championship.

Flammer had held the gold since before WWE’s acquisition of AAA, defeating Taya Valkyrie to become Reina de Reinas Champion at Triplemanía 31.

Three years later, we now have our first Reina de Reinas title change of WWE-owned AAA.

El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr & Galeno win the AAA World Tag Team Championship

Heading into Triplemanía 34, fans didn’t know who would be challenging for the AAA World Tag Team Championship, with the War Raiders issuing an open challenge to any team in WWE or AAA.

El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr & Galeno ultimately answered the call, with the brothers defeating Erik and Ivar to become champions.

The Wagner Brothers ended the War Raiders’ 106 day reign with the gold, which started following their victory over Psycho Clown & Pagano at Noche de Los Grandes in May.

Unlike the Reina de Reinas Title, this marks the fourth time the AAA World Tag Team Championship has changed hands since WWE’s acquisition of the promotion, with Los Garza also having held the gold under the WWE banner.

El Grande Americano wins the AAA Mega Championship

A huge AAA Mega Championship match headlined Triplemanía 34, with El Grande Americano challenging for Dominik Mysterio’s gold.

El Grande Americano was ultimately victorious, defeating “Dirty Dom” after 17 minutes of action, with Rey Mysterio counting the pinfall.

The masked character has been receiving huge reactions in Mexico this year, reaching peak popularity following his Mask vs Mask victory over the Original El Grande Americano (Chad Gable) at Noche de Los Grandes.

Following a 366-day title reign which started at Worlds Collide: Las Vegas in September 2025, Dominik Mysterio’s AAA Mega Championship reign is now over.
