WWE
After increasing conflict on WWE SmackDown with Cody Rhodes, there could be some legends who join forces with Randy Orton & Pat McAfee.
As the storyline continues to come together, one thing that McAfee has brought up is how he wants to restore the days of the Attitude Era and WWE’s past.
Here are six WWE legends that could still be revealed as aligned with Pat McAfee and Randy Orton ahead of WrestleMania 42.
6. ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton

Many fans believed Randy Orton’s mystery phone caller would have been revealed as his father ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton
One WWE Hall of Famer that could make an impact in the current WrestleMania 42 build is the legendary Bob Orton.
In addition to being Randy Orton’s father, Orton is an iconic name in the industry after a storied career that included a lengthy tenure in WWE.
Able to bring about a new perspective on the current product by continuing the comparisons to the past referenced by Pat McAfee, the elder Orton would have a unique perspective.
Potentially being a ‘voice of reason’ for Randy Orton, there would also be the option of having The Viper turn on his own father.
5. The Rock

With some fans anticipating a thunderous return from The Rock at some point ahead of next year’s WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia, it would seem logical that his return could be coming soon.
Able to certainly resume his ill will with Cody Rhodes, The Rock may also look to either unite with Roman Reigns now, only to have strife in the future.
Potentially leading to an even bigger WWE Civil War storyline in which The Rock unites with the likes of Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre & Pat McAfee, the babyface side would be compelling as well.
Able to unite Triple H, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk & Seth Rollins to go up against their arch nemeses as they fight for control over the next generation of WWE, each side could accumulate their own young allies, waging war well into 2027.
4. John Cena

If fans were hopeful that somehow John Cena would end up in the mix for the main event on night one of WrestleMania, it seems he’s managing expectations.
Taking to his brilliantly bizarre Instagram account, Cena posted a photo of a mug reading, “I’m retired, do it yourself.”
There’s no guarantee he was responding to fans calling for his involvement, but it does come as he’s already set to be in attendance in Las Vegas for the big event.
Already announced as returning to WWE in his non-wrestling role, John Cena is set to host both nights of the Las Vegas extravaganza, so there remains a chance he could get involved.
3. Ric Flair

With Pat McAfee continuing to thumb his nose as the “IWC” and “marks” with equal measure, an escalation in the nod to nostalgia could include a very big name that could be added to the squad.
The ultimate showman, Ric Flair is certainly set to be in Las Vegas for WrestleMania 42 weekend and continues to hold a huge presence in mainstream American pop culture – and he has repeatedly said in recent years that he believes Randy Orton should be utilized better by WWE.
Potentially joining forces with Orton and McAfee on their quest to save WWE from the bland and boring current product (according to McAfee), Flair could bring an unexpected element.
Hoping to restore WWE to a former glory, doubling down on a bygone era could be a compelling continued twist. The only hangup would be if Flair has contractual obligations to AEW preventing him from appearing.
2. Matt & Jeff Hardy

Bringing some legendary star power to the group in addition to a presence from TNA Wrestling, it could be that Matt and Jeff Hardy are solid additions.
Adding to the shock value of seeing the duo align with the dastardly actions of Randy Orton and Pat McAfee, there could be some rationale behind the move.
With McAfee dropping references to Cody Rhodes’ time in AEW among other insults of being a “politician” in the locker room, perhaps the Hardys could join in the feud.
Able to retcon whatever history between Matt Hardy and Cody Rhodes’ overlapping years in AEW – as well as the Hardys being stars of the Attitude Era that McAfee has praised so highly – there could end up being some very interesting stories told through the feud.
1. Stone Cold Steve Austin

One name that is floated about as a potential to appear just about every year at WrestleMania is Stone Cold Steve Austin. While the iconic star appeared in an in-ring bout at WrestleMania 38 against Kevin Owens, he returned at WrestleMania 41 for a non-wrestling appearance.
With a potential aim to launch a new unruly babyface on the main roster, there could definitely be a solid reason to involve Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Able to add fuel to the rising star of someone like Bron Breakker, positioning Breakker as an ally of the legendary Austin could be the perfect throwback.
Bringing Breakker back into the storyline, it could be that while the rising star initially joins forces with Team RKO, he ends up having a change of heart later.
