SmackDown Live
AJ Styles vs. Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas
WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?! I won’t complain in the slightest because I’m scared it will go away. I thought this was genuinely fantastic. Styles looked great but he always does. Almas looked great and that’s the key.
What made it better is that Almas finally got to properly show off his move-set and in-ring psychology to the mainstream crowd. The majority of which had definitely not seen his missed Moonsault from the top rope into an immediate standing one before. The pop for it was huge and hopefully a sign of big things to come for the main who – alongside Johnny Gargano – put on WWE‘s first Meltzer rated ***** match in seven years.
205 Live
Akira Tozawa vs. Lio Rush
Another week, another 205 Live main-event gracing my list. Tozawa has really won me over this year with his in-ring work but I was surprised to see some real personality in this match. After an early flurry from Rush, the ‘Man of the Hour’ lay on the top rope with a smile on his face. Tozawa quickly took control and did the same to mock the newest member of the division.
It’s great to see Tozawa enjoying his spot on the brand, even though that spot is pretty much as enhancement talent for Rush at the moment. Akira did, however, get in a lot of offense, making the win for Rush a hard-fought one. It keeps both men strong while elevating Rush to a higher level within 205 Live. Good stuff.
