205 Live
Akira Tozawa vs. Jack Gallagher
It really says something about a brand when the lower card non-storyline matches still have an impact. This match was simply there to give Akira Tozawa a solid win back so he can continue to look like a credible threat against Lio Rush as they push the newbie to be the next big main event player in the cruiserweight division.
That said, it was great. These two are both such strong workers and their contrasting styles compliment each other so well. Tozawa, in particular, was even getting really over with the crowd, something that is all too unfamiliar with the leftover SmackDown Live audience. Gallagher played his role well and kicked the show off on a positive note. Do you really need more?

TJP vs. Drew Gulak vs. Hideo Itami vs. Mustafa Ali
I’m so happy. I’m just so happy. Let’s get this out the way now. The match was great. Everyone in the match was great and they all had time to highlight their strengths. It’s 205 Live, start expecting that if you don’t already. The truly great thing here is the Drew Gulak finally has a shot at the title which he so richly deserves.
When the tournament for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship was turning heads at the start of the year, I was so certain Drew would get his shot after turning his character around and becoming one of the best and most formidable performers in the game today. Sadly, it was not to be. Mustafa Ali came up short. Then Kalisto. Then Buddy Murphy. Hideo Itami. All of the brand’s big names except one. Drew Gulak.
Before each of the previous, I had no doubt that Cedric Alexander would keep his title. Now, however, there’s a chance. Because if Drew doesn’t beat him, who will? Sure, maybe Lio Rush could be the one down the line and Alexander could have a very long run indeed but, from a storyline perspective, what is better than a true heel champion being chased by the babyfaces.
I’m looking forward to this one. And it all starts here.
