WWE Matches Of The Week #17 – SummerSlam Special

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV
NXT North American Championship
Adam Cole (c) vs. Ricochet

Adam Cole and Ricochet in the ring together. What more could you want? They were the highlights of the six-man ladder match the won the former the NXT North American Championship and now, they finally faced-off one on one in an outstanding match. If you didn’t know about Ricochet before, you damn well do now.

Ranallo called at some point during the match that he is like a cheat code in a video game and he is not wrong. Ricochet does things in the ring that simply defy the laws of physics and is a clear future brand leader in WWE.

Unless Adam Cole (BayBay) has something to say about it. The leader of the Undisputed Era is a full year into his NXT run and has dominated from day one. That was all on display here as he picked his challenger out of midair with possibly the most well-timed superkick to have ever happened. Ricochet goes for a middle-rope springboard Moonsault and eats Cole’s boot while perfectly upside down in the air. It was a masterpiece. The future is bright.

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV
NXT Women’s Championship
Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Kairi Sane

This was easily Shayna Baszler’s best match since joining the company. Kairi Sane is a brilliant performer and pulled out everything she could her to finally finish the job she started at the inaugural Mae Young Classic.

Baszler has become a force of nature in NXT and I truly hope she takes this opportunity to head up to the main roster and become the first real threat to Ronda Rousey’s newly won WWE Raw Women’s Championship.

This match though was full of hard to watch moments from incredibly painful looking submissions and joint manipulations to multiple picture-perfect In-Sane Elbows. I would not argue against this being some peoples’ match of the night. It was fantastic and was a great end to Baszler’s run atop the black and yellow brand.
