WWE Matches Of The Week #5

SmackDown Live
Money In The Bank Qualifying Match
Big Cass vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniel Bryan

As soon as this was announced as a triple threat instead of the dream Joe vs. Bryan match we were promised, I was furious. That said, I’m glad we have to wait for it because one day it will be on pay-per-view and for the title, I can just feel it.

Another plus was that this retconned bout was actually very good, which it was always going to be if I’m being honest. Big Cass held his own while Bryan and Joe reminded us how good they are. It’s great to see Joe has put the awful rest-hold-filled match against Reigns behind him.

Bryan is really showing that in a world of giants, he is no longer the underdog, they are, and he is the mountain they have to climb. With every new match, he becomes more and more fueled by fire, truly making up for the years gone with a microphone in hand instead of championship gold.

205 Live
The Brian Kendrick & Jack Gallagher vs. Lucha House Party (Kalisto & Lince Dorado)

Although a fairly textbook bout for 205 Live, this tag team match was still above the usual quality produced by WWE and with Drew Gulak in the role of special guest commentator, it was lifted even higher.

The purple brand is a constant for contrasting styles and this was no different with the technicians of Kendrick and Gallagher repeatedly stomping out the luchador style of their masked opponents. It was kept fresh as always thanks to some unique tandem offense from Kalisto and Dorando but Gulak’s turn on commentary really made this stand out and I’m very excited to see where this all leads.

It’s interesting, however, that the heavily rumored WWE Cruiserweight Tag Team Championships have yet to be announced, even after being name-dropped on a previous episode. Perhaps the break-up of Itami and Tozawa was a sign that the idea may be on the backburner… for now.
