SmackDown Live
Rusev defeated Xavier Woods
This one was a pretty simple, even affair, without the intention of really threatening to be a sensational match.
Rusev dodged the Limit Break, landed a Machka Kick and locked in the Accolade for the victory.
For what it was, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Eric Young ruled a No Contest – United States Championship
Aside from a botched Twist of Fate in the first 30 seconds, this one was quite enjoyable.
Young was on top for the majority, but Hardy led the crowd in “Delete!” chants and attempted a comeback.
The match didn’t go much longer though as the Usos, still peeved about last week, jumped the barricade and ambushed Wolfe and Dain on the outside. The scuffle made it’s way into the ring, and the match was thrown out.
Jeff Hardy and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) defeated SAnitY (Eric Young, Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe)
SAnitY worked over Jey Uso until his twin Jimmy came in off the ‘hot tag’.
The highlight of this one was Young’s sell of an Uso Superkick on the apron. It was Kyle O’Reilly-esque.
And the conclusion came with Hardy attempting a Swanton Bomb, but he couldn’t get his top off, so he just left it awkwardly attached to his wrist which was actually rather humorous.
One thing I don’t understand is why SAnitY lost their first match…
Becky Lynch defeated Sonya Deville
This one was quite slow with Deville utilizing a lot of submission-based offense.
The crowd were absolutely dead, and to be honest, so was I.
Lynch won when she threw Deville into Mandy Rose and locked the New Jersey native in the Dis-Arm-Her.
Daniel Bryan defeated Harper via Disqualification
Harper showed in this match just how capable he is of being a main event star in WWE and much more than just a scary, bearded man with a scary, bearded pal.
Harper was on top for all of this one really, with a nice springboard senton sprinkled in among the offense from the Bludgeon Brother.
Bryan attempted numerous combacks but just couldn’t get going and was constantly prevented by Harper.
Eventually though, the ‘”Yes!” Man’ did lock in the “Yes!” Lock, but only for Rowan to break it up and launch an assault, thus handing Bryan the DQ victory.
Match of the Show
Daniel Bryan defeated Harper via Disqualification
As I mentioned, Harper showed in this one how capable he is when tasked with putting on a main event match, and hopefully the higher-ups WWE are beginning to see that and will pull the proverbial trigger before it’s too late.
The Verdict
Except the women’s matches, every match on Raw was either excellent, entertaining, or just did what it was meant to do.
I feel the blue brand’s matches maybe slightly under-delivered given the potential they had.
With that said, Raw gets the nod this week.
