Former WWE United States Champions To Return To The Company WWE

The United States Title’s lineage stretches back to 1975 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, and it remains a championship long associated with the most famous rival of WWE, WCW.

However, after purchasing its rival, WWE brought the title into the company, and it has remained active since being reintroduced in 2003.

First won by Eddie Guerrero at Vengeance 2003, there have been 89 different reigns over the subsequent 22 years with the most recent being Sami Zayn.

Here are five former champions who could make a return to WWE – potentially answering Sami Zayn’s open challenge for the US Championship.

5. Chris Jericho

AEW star and WWE legend Chris Jericho

It is now widely known that Chris Jericho’s AEW contract expires at the end of the year.

The fact that he has disappeared without a trace from AEW programming has only fueled speculation that a WWE return could be on the cards.

A six-time world champion in WWE, at 54 years old it’s unlikely we’ll see him hold one of the company’s top titles again; however, as a two-time United States Champion, there’s every chance his comeback could center around that belt instead.

Imagine the pop if Jericho returned to answer Sami Zayn’s US Championship open challenge!
