WWE SummerSlam Preview – Part 1 – The Pre-Show

Cedric Alexander (c) vs Drew Gulak – WWE Cruiserweight Championship

First of all, the fact that this match is on the pre-show is not only an insult to the performers themselves, but also to regular viewers of 205 Live who know what these guys are capable of.

There is not one person in the entire universe that wants to see Baron Corbin vs Finn Bálor, and if you do, I suggest you should probably see someone for your condition.

Anyway, Alexander’s been undefeated in 2018, and has made three defenses since winning the vacant strap at WrestleMania 34 against Mustafa Ali, which was once again on the pre-show (I grit my teeth as I wrote that).

He fended off Kalisto at the Greatest Royal Rumble, and has since retained over Buddy Murphy and Hideo Itami on 205 Live. All the while, the Philadelphian submission specialist Drew Gulak has been on quite the roll too, having been undefeated in televised singles action since April.

His Fatal Four-way win a few weeks back to become number one contender was fairly predictable, as he defeated Mustafa Ali, Hideo Itami and TJP, but sometimes, and especially in this case, predictable isn’t always a bad thing.

Gulak has been molded as a genuine danger to anyone he steps in the ring with, and his newfangled relationship with fellow villains The Brian Kendrick and Gentleman Jack Gallagher of late only adds to the threat he poses to the ‘Soul of 205 Live.’

Even since his days in the ‘Zo Train’ and with his PowerPoint presentations, Gulak has been a standout in the cruiserweight division for months now, and while Alexander’s skill is undeniable, it is very likely we could be looking at a new face of WWE’s purple brand come the end of the SummerSlam KickOff.

Prediction: Drew Gulak
